BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Breaking the Ice (Juniper Falls #2)
by Julie Cross
Publication Date: December 26, 2017
Publisher: Entangled Teen
The second book in the Juniper Falls series from NY Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Julie Cross, perfect for fans of Miranda Kenneally and Abbi Glines.

Haley Stevenson seems like she’s got it all together: cheer captain, “Princess” of Juniper Falls, and voted Most Likely to Get Things Done. But below the surface, she’s struggling with a less-than-stellar GPA and still reeling from the loss of her first love. Repeating her Civics class during summer school is her chance to Get Things Done, not angst over boys. In fact, she’s sworn them off completely until college.
Fletcher Scott is happy to keep a low profile around Juniper Falls. He’s always been the invisible guy, warming the bench on the hockey team and moonlighting at a job that would make his grandma blush. Suddenly, though, he’s finding he wants more: more time on the ice, and more time with his infuriatingly perfect summer-school study partner.
But leave it to a girl who requires perfection to shake up a boy who’s ready to break all the rules.

Cover Reveal & Giveaway For HER BOOK BOYFRIEND By K.R.Grace

Title: Her Book Boyfriend
Author: K.R. Grace
Genre: Mature YA Romantic Comedy

Release Date: August 25, 2017
Cover Designer: Okay Creations, LLC
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.
GR
She believes the secret to love is in the tropes of her favorite romance novels. He’s the best friend prepared to prove her wrong.
Then comes the bet.
If she can’t land a boyfriend for prom by recreating the ten popular tropes in her favorite romance author’s books, she has to go to the prom with her.
The glitch?
They’ve been close their entire lives. He’s the rock god and school legend, while she’s the brainy sidekick who does all his dirty breakups. Thus, finding a guy who doesn’t think they’re already an item is going to be a lot harder than she thinks.
Will she land the book boyfriend of her dreams? Or will she be forced to go to prom with her best friend.
The truth is in the pages.

As a child, K.R. Grace had an overactive imagination. When it was obvious she wasn’t going to change anytime soon, her mom shoved a pen and paper in her hand and said, “Write it down.” So, at the age of eight, her first story was born, and the writing hasn’t stopped since. When she’s not running with wolves, sleeping with bears, or flying with falcons, she can be found checking out local bands or watching movies about things that go “boo” in the night. She lives in East Tennessee with a dog that is afraid of his own shadow and a cat that was a mob leader in a former life.

What do you think of the cover?

Seventeen-year-old Ellie Gebhardt has spent the last three years of high school in psychotherapy, trying to fix a very broken her. And her shrink (or therapist as she likes to be called) seems to think that in order to totally heal, she needs to recognize all the good and bad things that have led her to this point. As if a trip down memory lane will suddenly make her better.
She’s given a “homework” assignment to create two lists. One with nothing but happy memories and thoughts on it (otherwise known as the ‘happy rainbow farting unicorns list’). And the other with everything negative that Ellie thinks contributed to “the” day she could no longer cope.

So begins Ellie’s Douche Bag list (or D.B. List for short). And once she gets started, it’s hard to stop remembering all the jerks, the petty crap, the times she’d been bullied or the main focus of the rumor mill.

So when nice guy, Ky Laramie, walks into her life, Ellie instantly puts her shields up. But as she gets to know him and his family, she wonders if she can dare to put herself out there again. Because as everyone knows, once a candle is lit, the wind can always blow it out. And Ellie couldn’t handle it if Ky ends up atop of the D.B. List.

The rare union will cement his family's standing in empath politics and give the couple legendary powers, painting a bullseye on Liam's back--and hers. All Indian-American Laxshmi Kapadia wants is to free herself from her traditional mother's ultimatum: graduate from high school early and go to medical school, or have her marriage arranged. Neither allow her to pursue her dreams of a career in dancing or of falling in love. When Liam moves in next door to Laxshmi, he's immediately drawn to the purity of her emotions, and she sees in this charming Irish boy a future with the freedom to follow her heart. But Liam's father will never consent if she's not The One. And Laxshmi's mom won't even let her talk to their handsome new neighbor. But hiding their relationship can't keep them from becoming targets of a dark and ancient group determined to destroy the soulmated.
An excerpt

I stormed out the back, letting the screen door slam behind me. The infinite darkness above did nothing to lift the suffocating blanket of my life. I picked up the recycling bin and lugged it down to the curb, trying to control the emotions taking over. As I bent to drop the bin, my hands wouldn't let go. I'd clung so hard to the edge, my muscles went stiff. I dropped to my knees and bowed my head between my arms, matching my breaths to the pulsing rhythm of the crickets' chirping, hoping to fend off the tears.
"Lucky?"
I squeaked and twisted so fast, I fell back on my butt. "Liam?" I glanced at my house to make sure Mom wasn't watching.
Liam followed my gaze and stayed between his house and Mrs. Robertson's, keeping out of Mom's view. He was holding a recycling bin filled with flattened boxes.
From the light of both porches, I could see the concern on his face.
Does he really like me?
He put down the bin and moved into the shadows of Mrs. Robertson's porch, waving me over. I looked toward my house again and got up, wiping off my backside. The closer I got to him, the lighter the oppressive veil felt. I stopped at arm's length, not trusting myself to step any closer.
"Praying over the recycling, were you?" he asked.
A bitter laugh came out before I could stop it. I cleared my throat. "Something like that," I whispered.
His eyes shot over to my house and then back to me. "Your mum?"
I nodded, unable to stop staring into his eyes. Before I realized what I was doing, I'd told him about Sujata, Mom's edict about marriage or med school, and Premlata Aunty's 'offer.' At the mention of Tejas, Liam cracked his neck and dipped his head, his hands hanging loosely on his hips. Great, now I'm making him uncomfortable.

If they get too close—it could ruin both their lives.

 Guest Post-Playlist

Music always plays a big role in my writing. It’s such a great way to find inspiration and promote more *feeling*. I usually use Spotify for my book play lists (I make one for every one I write, and even some I don’t end up writing!) Some songs are fitting for the whole book, the theme, the setting etc, or one scene or one character but they all have a place and feel like part of the book by the end of it (sometimes it even feels weird that readers don’t know the songs!)

Here is my official Pushing The Boundaries Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/user/1256535719/playlist/6icxoIgai82mQym1kJbOjh

In that playlist are some great songs, like Heart Attack by Demi Lavato which totally fits my character Myra. She’s afraid of love and closed off emotionally but somehow there is that one boy who finds a way to cause all the walls to crumble!

“You make me glow, but I cover up
Won’t let it show, so I’m
Putting my defenses up
Cause I don’t wanna fall in love
If I ever did that
I think I’d have a heart attack” (Heart Attack Demi Lavato)

Better Together by Jack Johnson, which is fitting for both characters but Elias especially since he’s the one who really peruses her, who believes they are better together. Also, I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift, which unfortunately isn’t on Spotify but I still loved for this book.

“Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together” (Better Together, Jack Johnson)

I also have several songs by Nu Look (Time, Until When, Rein Que Toi, Haiti, Quel Espoir) who is an amazing Haitian artist who sings in Creole (the language of Haiti). All of this songs are very cool, not that I can understand most of the words! But the feeling behind them, and the music is what really matters!

More songs from my Pushing The Boundaries playlist:

Natalie Imberglia- Torn
If I Ain’t Got You- Alicia Keys
Broken- Seether
Summertime Sadness- Lana Del Rey

Sparks Fly- Taylor Swift

Stacey Trombley lives in Ohio with her husband, new baby boy and the sweetest Rottweiler you’ll ever meet. Any chance she has she’s off doing or learning something new. She went on her first mission trip to Haiti at age twelve and is still dying to go back. Her “places to travel” list is almost as long as her “books to read” list.

Review For FALLING FOR THE GIRL NEXT DOOR by Tera Lynn Childs-* * *

Title: Falling for the Girl Next Door
Series: Creative HeArts, #5; Sloane & Tru, #2

Author: Tera Lynn Childs
Genre: YA Romance
Rating: * * *
Publishers: Entangled Crush
(Nov 14, 2016)
Pages: 186  pages
ASIN: B01MCXPL5A
FTC Disclosure: ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley

Sloane Whitaker never expected to like living in Texas, but after a few months in the Lone Star State, she has to admit she likes the food, the school, and the boy next door. What she doesn’t like is the fact that half her family is still back in New York. Convincing her dad to relocate to Texas requires making their upcoming visit as perfect as possible. The perfect dinner, the perfect daughter...with the perfect boyfriend.
But when her not-so-perfect boyfriend Tru Dorsey is suddenly not-so-available, Sloane has to find another dad-impressing guy to show off at dinner. Tru himself suggests enlisting the help of a fake boyfriend, but the reality of another guy with Sloane on his arm might be more than Tru can manage. Add in a mysterious blackmailer and a divided family, and Sloane and Tru’s relationship might not be able to handle the heat.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a bad boy next door, the good girl who snags his heart, and one epically disastrous ruse-gone-wrong. Join the fun at your own risk.

The Creative HeArts series is best enjoyed in order
Reading Order:
Book #1 - Ten Things Sloane Hates About Tru
Book#2 - How Willa Got Her Groove Back
Book #3 - Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance
Book #4 - The Secret Life of A Dream
Book #5 - Falling for the Girl Next Door

Not sure why but never really connected with the characters in this book. I've not read any of the other books in this series but didn't feel that I'd missed anything. Overall, I just didn't feel like there was much of a story here. I also didn't like that their story was told from alternating points of view, Sloane's in 1st person and Tru's from 3rd person. I find that jarring and it made me aware that I was reading. Though the book was only 186 pages it seemed much longer and not in a good way.

BEFORE TOMORROW, Excerpt

Logan never thought of himself as a stalker, but that’s precisely what he did the next day. Stalked Callie with his eyes throughout the Poetry Core. Hid behind a digital kiosk and spied on her as she dispensed her lunch from a Meal Assembler. And, after school let out, he followed her and her sister, Jessa, to a nearby park.
He sat on a wrought-iron bench and watched them. As always, she made him feel like he’d just swum a hundred-meter race. Her hair was long and wavy, dark with bits of gold that beckoned him like the lights at the end of the pool. Her skin was brown and smooth, her cheeks round and flushed. But it was her eyes that got him—that had always gotten him. Not so much their warm color or lovely shape, but their expression. She had this way of looking at him as if she really saw him. As if he really mattered.
She and Jessa stood under a tree, the colorful leaves falling around them. They tilted their faces to the sky, and Callie laughed. He could hardly hear the sound, but he didn’t need to. He’d heard it enough times at school. And no matter how many people were in the room, no matter how loud they were, he could always pick out Callie’s laugh.
A few words drifted by on the breeze. Color names. Red, orange, brown. Jessa must be calling out the color of the leaves before they fell. Interesting. He never knew the younger sister was psychic, but somehow, it didn’t surprise him.
Callie clasped her hands together. Even from a distance, he could tell she was trying not to fidget. She was probably nervous about getting her memory tomorrow. That’s why they’d always sat near each other in class—because their birthdays were two days apart. It was a blessing when they were friends—and pure torture when they weren’t. The phrase “do something” seemed to march around her like an endlessly repeating scroll of text. Do something. Do something. Do something.
But for the first time in five years, when he looked at her, he didn’t hear the words. He didn’t see Mikey being dragged away, his hands wrenched behind him in a pair of electro-cuffs. Instead, he saw her as she was in his memory. Sitting on the first row of the bleachers, meeting his eyes across the crowd. Mouthing those words, “My red leaf.”
Talk to her, he ordered himself, but his leaden feet refused to move. So much time had passed. She had every right to shoot him down. Any regular girl would.
But Callie wasn’t a regular girl. She was the girl who fell over in her chair because she was trying to see the sun. The girl in his memory who looked at him with acceptance. The girl who saw through the twisted depths of him—and liked him anyway.
And then, she and her sister turned and marched toward the bullet train station, their swinging arms synchronized. Aw, fike. He lurched to his feet and trotted after them. “Calla, wait up,” he called, using her full name. It had been years since he’d said it, but the syllables sprung to his lips as naturally as if he’s said them every day. Every hour. And maybe, somewhere deep in his soul, he did. Because in that place, Callie never stopped being his friend.

Release Day Celebration & Giveaway For One Summer with Autumn by Julie Reece

One Summer with Autumn
by Julie Reece
Publisher: Oct 18, 2016
Publisher: Swoon Romance
YA Romance

Seventeen-year-old Autumn Teslow arrives at her father’s job fair knowing she’ll never measure up to the perfect image of daddy’s little girl—her twin sister.
Wearing anger management issues like a second skin won’t help Autumn win her dad’s approval for the big trip she’s been planning—or meet his condition that she successfully complete a summer internship for college.
Autumn’s cool unravels when her sister lectures against disappointing the family again. And when a young, bearded guy steps through the crowd to settle the growing argument between siblings, Autumn lashes out, dubbing him a “Duck Dynasty wannabe.”
At Nineteen, Caden Behr is clueless as to why his man parts are threatened by the fearsome girl before him. He’d only come to find an intern for his recreational equipment company, not break up a girl-fight between two sisters.
Unfortunately, the only candidate left is the girl who just told him off. Without her, he’ll never prove to his CEO mother that he’s ready for more responsibility.
Autumn and Caden agree that if they can keep from killing one another, they can use one another to get what they want and then never have to see each other again. Which is what they want.
Until it isn’t.
Because despite her best efforts to scare him off, and his fading desire to push her into the lake, they’re beginning to enjoy the time they spend together. But pride is a hard habit to break. And if neither will admit their changing feelings, they could lose a whole lot more than one summer.

Julie lived next to her grandfather’s horse farm until the fourth grade. Summers were about riding, fishing and make-believe, while winter brought sledding and ice-skating on frozen ponds. Most of life was magical, but not all.
Just the knowledge that a good book is awaiting one at the end of a long day makes that day happier.
KATHLEEN NORRIS
She struggled with multiple learning disabilities, did not excel in school, and spent most of her time looking out windows and daydreaming. In the fourth grade (with the help of one very nice teacher) she fought for her right to read and won.
Afterwards, Julie invented stories where she could be a princess or from another world who kicked bad guy butt to win the heart of a charismatic hero. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that? Later, continued fantasizing about superpowers and monsters, fabricating stories (her mother called it lying) and sharing them with friends.
Then she wrote one down…
Southern gothic, contemporary, fantasy and romance, Julie loves strong heroines, sweeping tales of mystery and epic adventure (which must include a really hot guy) Her writing is proof determination can overcome any obstacle.
