BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Review For NOT THE DUKE'S DARLING By Elizabeth Hoyt- 4*

Title: NOT THE DUKE'S DARLING

Series: Greycourt #1
Author: Elizabeth Hoyt
Genre: Historical Romance
Rating: * * * *
Publishers: Forever
(Dec 18, 2018)
Paperback: 496 pages
FTC Disclosure: ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley

Freya de Moray is many things: a member of the secret order of Wise Women, the daughter of disgraced nobility, and a chaperone living under an assumed name. What she is not is forgiving. So when the Duke of Harlowe--the man who destroyed her brother and led to the downfall of her family--appears at the country house party she's attending, she does what any Wise Woman would do: she starts planning her revenge.

Christopher Renshaw, the Duke of Harlowe, is being blackmailed. Intent on keeping his secrets safe, he agrees to attend a house party where he will put an end to this coercion once and for all. Until he recognizes Freya, masquerading amongst the party revelers, and realizes his troubles have just begun. Freya knows all about his sins. Sins he'd much rather forget. But she's also fiery, bold, and sensuous-a temptation he can't resist. When it becomes clear Freya is in grave danger, he'll risk everything to keep her safe. But first, Harlowe will have to earn Freya's trust-by whatever means necessary.

Features a bonus novella from New York Times bestselling author Grace Burrowes!

While this isn't Maiden Lane (which I loved, loved, loved), I still enormously enjoyed the start of Hoyt's new series. Hoyt manages again to create some simply awesome heroines and heroes. Freya is definitely not the typical female from 1760 London nor is Christopher the typical Duke.
It's always a treat to get to read a new book by Hoyt and it blew me away to realize that it was almost 500 pages long.(One of the things I love and hate about the Kindle is not getting a true feel of the length of a book. I  always feel kind of shocked and sad when I realize the story has ended.) It was a weekend read for me that seemed to speed by much, much to fast. Presumably, I slept and ate this weekend (I don't recall) but obviously I must have had the Kindle attached to my hand most of the time as I did finish it so quickly. I love Hoyt's details of life from both the upper class point of view and the staff's. It's rather like getting a Downton Abbey moment with Hoyt's particular recipe for suspense and romance blended to produce a meal that is totally satisfying and filling.
One additional note that I just must add, if you haven't read the Maiden Lane series, it is now complete. Picking up this series for a binge read would be so awesome and I almost hate (nah, not really) I've already read it all cause I never reread a series. Just not enough time to indulge in rereading no matter how great it was.

Elizabeth Hoyt is the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weeklybestselling author of historical romance, including reader favorite, The Raven Prince.
Elizabeth was born in New Orleans but grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was fortunate to be able to travel extensively as a child, visiting St. Andrews, Scotland; Germany; France; and Belgium. She spent a year in Oxford, England and was a summer exchange student to Kawasaki, Japan.
Elizabeth has a BA in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and, as a result of having no clue what to do with her life thereafter, a career history as a barista, a (terrible) sales clerk, a Wisconsin Revenue Service data entry slave, and an archeological field work grunt. Fortunately, Elizabeth married relatively young and produced two children who kept her busy until her mid-thirties. At about this time, when her youngest was entering Kindergarten, Elizabeth’s mother hinted that perhaps Elizabeth should get a Real Job.

Sadly, Elizabeth was so delusional she thought writing a romance novel might qualify as a Real Job.
But! Five years later, to everyone’s surprise, she actually sold that romance novel (The Raven Prince) and began a rather successful career as a Romance Novelist. This was most fortunate since Elizabeth is singularly unqualified to do anything else but Make Up Stories. Since then Elizabeth has written over twenty books to critical acclaim including three contemporaries under the pen name Julia Harper.
Elizabeth lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with three dogs, a garden in constant need of weeding, and the ever faithful Mr. Hoyt.

Review For WRANGLER'S RESCUE By B.J. Daniels- 4*

Title: WRANGLER'S RESCUE

Series: Montana Cahills #7

Author: B.J. Daniels
Genre: Romance/Suspense
Rating: * * * *
Publishers: HQN
(Nov 20, 2018)
Paperback: 384 pages

She'll risk everything to bring her cowboy back home...
One week ago, Cyrus Cahill told Ashley Jo "AJ" Somerfield that he'd be back in her arms by the weekend. He just needed to buy a bull
for his ranch, and then they'd pick up where they left off after that romantic ride through the foothills. But now he's gone missing and everyone - even the sheriff - believes he's dead.
Everyone... but AJ. She suspects foul play and she won't rest until Cyrus is back home in Gilt Edge, right where he belongs. Because Cyrus isn't the kind of cowboy who breaks a promise. And since she's not the kind of woman who gives up on her man, AJ will risk anything to help bring him home... even her own life.

Don't miss this suspenseful conclusion of The Montana Cahills series from New York Timesbestselling author B.J. Daniels.

Wow, what an awesome ending to an awesome series! Cyrus is not Daniel's typical hero, he is so shy it is almost painful. I don't know if she's had a Montana cowboy that wasn't so sure of their masculine appeal, it was actually kind of refreshing and cute. I loved how loyal and sure AJ was of Cyrus's feelings for her. I don't want to spoil any of the awesome twists and turns in this conclusion so will not say anymore about AJ's determination to discover what happened. If you haven't started this series now's the time to round up copies of the rest of the series and indulge in a binge read of one of the best of Daniel's series.

Cowboy lawmen make the best protectors

Fleeing from her dangerous ex-boyfriend, on-the-run single mother Nicole Dyer takes refuge in a cabin—and is discovered by the ranch owner, Deputy Matt McKade. It’s easy to fall for the handsome lawman and his kind family, but staying at the ranch endangers them all. When everything Nicole loves comes under direct fire, can Matt keep her—and her heart—safe?

This is a tightly written romantic suspense that will keep you reading till the wee hours of the night. I found myself gripping my Kindle till my fingers cramped many times throughout this story. Having an adorable three year old tossed into the story definitely added to my enjoyment. The secondary characters were as engaging as the main characters and I loved the final twist in the story. Having read the earlier books in this series, it was nice to find out what this family had been up to since last visiting with them.

The new novel from the bestselling author of Lone Rider. Sometimes the war comes to you . . .

After serving as a Navy medic, Dawson Callahan is back in the States and ready to start over. Leaving his native Texas, he heads for the wide open spaces of Wyoming, where he finds work as a wrangler. True, he’ll mainly be wrangling chickens—and wrangling Sarah Carter’s granny, who’s still spry, but in need of a little caregiving. But ranch work is ranch work, and it’s hard to turn down a job offer from the beautiful Sheriff Carter—especially when she deputizes him as one of her lawmen.
Sarah loves her grandmother, but with her law enforcement career keeping her busy, they could both use some help from a strong, steady man. And policing Lincoln County has only gotten tougher since a merciless drug lord arrived in the area. When Sarah takes a bullet on the job, it’s Dawson who comes to her rescue—and though they both thought they left war behind in Afghanistan, they’ll do whatever it takes to protect what’s theirs, even if it means facing down traumas they’ve buried for years. Because love isn’t for the faint of heart . . .

I gotta admit the part of the blurb where they talk about Dawson being a chicken wrangler was what had me picking up this book. Alas, there wasn't as much story about this aspect as I'd hoped for but it was still a pretty awesome story. It's an action packed adventure story that was hard to put down.
I always enjoy reading a vet's story and both Sara and Dawson had PTSD, so I was glad to see that their romance built up slowly to their HEA. Go HERE to read a preview of this awesome book.

Lindsay McKenna is the pseudonym of award-winning author Eileen Nauman. With more than 145 titles to her credit and approximately 23 million books sold in 33 countries worldwide, Lindsay is one of the most distinguished authors in the women's fiction genre. She is the recipient of many awards, including six RT Book Reviews awards (including best military romance author) and an RT Book Reviews Career Achievement Award. In 1999, foreseeing the emergence of ebooks, she became the first bestselling women's fiction author to exclusively release a new title digitally.
Morgan's Mercenaries, 45 books strong, has been the longest running saga-series in publishing history. She is now creating another family and Delos Series will bring romantic suspense, which she is famous for writing, to her many readers. For more, go to her website.
In recognition of her status as one of the originators of the military adventure/romance genre, Lindsay is affectionately known as "The Top Gun of Women's Military Fiction." Lindsay comes by her military knowledge and interest honestly--by continuing a family tradition of serving in the U.S. Navy. Her father, who served on three different destroyers in the Pacific theater during World War II, instilled a strong sense of patriotism and duty in his daughter.
So, upon graduating high school, Lindsay--already a student pilot--continued the family custom by enlisting in the U.S. Navy and serving three years (1964-67) as an AG3--Aerographer's Mate Third Class (meteorologist).
Since that time Lindsay has kept up her interest in test piloting and training as research for her military romance novels. In pursuit of authenticity, she has undergone high-altitude hyperbaric chamber training at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, flown an Air Force T-38 "chase plane" out of  Edwards Air Force Base in California, undertaken two missions (a 12-hour day mission and a five-hour night mission) in an Air Force Strategic Air Command  (SAC) B-52 bomber out of K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Michigan, flown in a Falcon Coast Guard jet from Coast  Guard Miami Air Station in Florida and participated in search-and-rescue helicopter and training missions out of the Coast Guard Port Angeles in Washington.
Naturally, Lindsay's military experience is the backbone of her writing--in addition to being credited with writing the first military romance novel (Captive of Fate, 1983), she has created a thriving sub-genre within the romance field. It is, therefore, no surprise that her many experiences in the U.S. Navy are a backdrop for her upcoming Operation: Shadow Warriors series.

Of course, Lindsay's interests don't end with the military. Research for other novels has pushed her into becoming intimately acquainted with other professions that serve the common good. From 1981 to 1983, she served as a volunteer firefighter with the West Point Volunteer Fire Department in Ohio and helped pioneer the role of female firefighters. And from 1996 to 2000, Lindsay was registered as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic in Arizona--expertise that is reflected in emergency and accident situations in her books.

A cowboy must face his past --

Before he loses his heart… again —

Supermodel Annabelle “Annie” Clementine is back in Whitehorse, Montana. And there’s nothing cowboy Dawson Rogers wants more than to see his ex-lover’s backside… on the road out. He’ll even risk his heart again and help sell her late grandmother’s house so Annie can leave ASAP. Except along with the house, Annie inherited a mystery. And if they don’t solve it soon, someone’s willing to kill for the answer.

I love Daniels' ability to wrap a romance in suspense. Throw in a good looking cowboy and you've got the recipe for a weekend piled up on the couch reading nonstop. I can't say Annie was a favorite of mine but she grew on me and by the end of the book, appreciated the fact that she had done what she wanted with her life and didn't regret it.
This is a great start to a new series and I look forward to the next two books.

Blog Tour For BEAUTIFUL EVIL WINTER By Kelly K. Lavender

Beautiful Evil Winter
Fifty Shades of Suspense, Book 1
Published: November 14, 2014

Beautiful Evil Winter - Front.jpg
Multi-Award-Winning Russian Suspense
"...The book is difficult to put down, enticing you to read a few more chapters before bed. In the end, the book leaves the reader satisfied, but the story never fully leaves your mind."  The US Review of Books

After the USSR collapses, a time reminiscent of the unforgiving gun-slinging days of the frontier west, mild-mannered Ethan and fiery Sophia board a plane bound for Russia. They hope to prevail with their homespun plan to secure their son's safe passage to America. What can go wrong? Maybe, an innocent ill fated encounter with the Mafia or maybe, being marked as a target for mob revenge. Perhaps, having to rely on a first-time adoption coordinator to complete the process and shelter them from harm. Honestly, what won't go wrong?
Inspired by a true story, Beautiful Evil Winter triumphs as epic historical fiction about the human capacity for hope, the traumas that shape our lives and the hardships we'll endure for love. Beautiful Evil Winter has earned a list of accolades including an Eric Hoffer Award for "...writing of significant merit" and a Readers' Favorite International Book Award. In stark contrast to Fifty Shades, Beautiful Evil Winter captivates as spine-tingling suspense about the risky yet all-important road to self-actualization and happiness. Beautiful Evil Winter holds special appeal for resilient, smart, resourceful women who rescue themselves and the proud, grateful, unburdened men who love them.

Kelly’s fascination with fiction began in middle school when she entered a book-reading contest and won. As an ardent fan of the resonating narrative and the cliffhanger, she decided to dedicate herself to becoming a skilled writer. When college professors spotlighted her writing in the classroom, it anchored her interest in becoming a novelist.

After earning a business degree, she continued to pursue her education at UCLA, via the UCLA Writers' Extension Program, where her work earned praise from an Award-Winning Author. A rickety project trip to Russia, to adopt a baby boy, provided the inspiration for her debut novel, Beautiful Evil Winter.
