BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Review- DEAD GIRL RUNNING By Christina Dodd-5*

Title: Dead Girl Running
Series: Cape Charade #1

Author: Christina Dodd

Genre: Thriller Suspense
Rating: * * * * *
Publishers: HQN Books
(Apr 24, 2018)
Hardback: 336 pages
FTC Disclosure: ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley
Copy provided for the purpose of providing an honest review.
This does not affect my opinion of this book.

I have three confessions to make:
1. I've got the scar of a gunshot on my forehead.
2. I don't remember an entire year of my life.
3. My name is Kellen Adams...and that's half a lie.

Girl running...from a year she can't remember, from a husband she prays is dead, from homelessness and fear. Tough, capable Kellen Adams takes a job as assistant manager of a remote vacation resort on the North Pacific Coast. There, amid the towering storms and the lashing waves, she hopes to find sanctuary. But when she discovers a woman's dead and mutilated body, she's soon trying to keep her own secrets while investigating first one murder...then another.

Now every guest and employee is a suspect. Every friendly face a mask. Every kind word a lie. Kellen's driven to defend her job, her friends and the place she's come to call home. Yet she wonders--with the scar of a gunshot on her forehead and amnesia that leaves her unsure of her own past, could the killer be staring her in the face?

I've read oodles of Dodd's books over the years and this one did not disappoint. It was a good solid thriller that kept me guessing most of the book. Many neat twists that added to my enjoyment and had me sure I'd figured "it" out. Only to a small measure. This is one of those books you need to start really early on a day that you can devote your entire day/night to as you will be unable to leave it unfinished. Several reviewers mentioned a cliffhanger but I felt the ending just was a promise of more to come.
I throughly enjoyed the gothic feel of the resort and the descriptive presentation of this remote area of the North Pacific Coast. With both the mysterious past of Kellen's and trying to determine the who and why of the murder, you get a double mystery that will occupy your mind each time you lay the book down so prepare for a late night once you get solidly into this twisty tale.

Review For JUSTICE ASCENDING By Rebecca Zanetti- 5*

Title: Justice Ascending
Series: Scorpius Syndrome #3
Author: Rebecca Zanetti
Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Romance
Rating: * * * * *

This does not affect my opinion of this book.

Before surviving the Scorpius bacterium, Tace Justice was a good ole Texas cowboy who served his country and loved his mama. After Scorpius, the world became dark, dangerous, and deadly... and so did he. The Vanguard medic is stronger, faster, and smarter than before, but he's lost the line between right and wrong. His passion is absolute, and when he focuses it on one woman, there's no turning back for either of them.
Sami Steel has been fighting to survive right alongside Tace, convincing the Vanguard soldiers she's one of them. In truth, Sami is a former hacker turned government agent who worked at The Bunker, where scientists stored both contaminants and cures. Only she knows the location, and she's not telling. Yet when sexual fire explodes between her and Tace, she'll face even that hell again to save him.

This is my favorite type of romance-post-apocalyptic. I've read each of the books in this series and it only gets better and better with each book. Though this is the third book in the series, they can be read as standalones, though the story is so much richer by reading them all and in order.
Trace was a medic before Scorpius and is a valued member of Vanguard. Sami is a kick-ass lieutenant of Vanguard and claims to have been a member of the LAPD. It's been fun watching these two dance around each other up to now. But the the time has come to fish or cut bait. While the action is nonstop, the romance is hot and adorable. Zanetti has added yet another winner to this series and at two books a year in this series from her plus her Blood Brothers series, my hero!

Rebecca Zanetti wrote her first story when she was six a romance between a princess and neighboring prince. The princess fell out of her castle and the prince rescued her. A happily ever after was had by all.
This theme of romance has been carried through Rebecca's works until present time. While todays heroine may have a medical degree, black belt in Karate and her own 401K, she's still after that happy ending. Rebecca attended Pepperdine University, earning a bachelor's degree in Journalism with a Political Science emphasis. While there she worked as the Editor-in-Chief of The Graphic newspaper, a member of the Pi Phi Sorority and an intern for President Reagan, who still gave 3-5 speeches a week, even though he was no longer president. After college, Rebecca worked as an art curator and a Senate aide before heading to law school, where she received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho. She married Tony Zanetti in the middle of her second year of law school and became pregnant with their first child during the third year. She graduated law school, gave birth three weeks later, and took the Bar Exam three weeks after that. She worked for a large firm, then a small firm, then the county while also teaching legal classes at her local community college. Now she writes about vampires.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides there with her husband, children and extended family who inspire her every day.

Review For BEST DAY EVER By Kaira Rouda-5*

Title: Best Day Ever
Author: Kaira Rouda
Genre:
Psychological Thriller
Rating: * * * * *
Publishers: Graydon House
(Sept 19, 2017)
Hardback: 352 pages
FTC Disclosure: ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley

The perfect couple is the perfect illusion...
"I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, and I am bursting with confidence. Today will be everything I’ve promised her…and more…”
Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he's promised today will be the best day ever. But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How much do they trust each other? And how perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion. In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.
You are quickly queued in by the author that Paul is a controlling as***
by his thoughts on the drive to their lake house. He doesn't like to stop when driving so he "graciously" allows a stop so Mia can go to the bathroom. He actually has "rules" for most everything! She manages to one up him however, when he stops at McDonald's and she asks if he'd like anything. He immediately responds "fries" to which she shakes her head and brings him bottled water. Score one for Mia! Cause of course he needs to hydrate! The fact that Paul realizes he does not respond well emotionally and has to school himself to feel sadness and other emotions is a tip-off that he may also be a bit psycho.
Once I started this book, barely 50 pages in, I knew I was going to be up all night reading so hubby got leftovers (it was steak and potatoes so I didn't feel too bad though I did read through most of the meal). I did the dishes and got a shower in less than 10 minutes so I would not have to move again till I finished. If you enjoy peeking behind the curtain at what on the outside appears to be a "perfect" life, you are going to enjoy this ride!

Review For CROSSING IN TIME By D. L. Orton- 5 *

Title: Crossing In Time

Author: DL Orton
Genre: Time Travel

(May 1, 2015)
Paperback: 558 pages Large Print
ISBN: 978-1941368039
FTC Disclosure: My copy

Remember how it feels to fall in love? —   * Race against the clock through a dystopian nightmare. —   * Climb naked into an untested time machine (carrying a seashell and a promise). —   * Wake up 20 years younger, buck naked and mortally wounded, with your heart in your throat. —
    — This is a perilous journey of passion, loss, and redemption that will have your pulse galloping and your palms sweating, make you laugh out loud through your tears, and leave you flush with the sublime pleasure of being in the arms of the one you love.

Oh, my! What a ride! This was a very fast paced read and even at over 400 pages, I flew through it.  I know that this is sci-fi but it seemed so believable and possible. The combination genre of time travel, sci-fi, suspense and romance made this book about as close to perfect as it gets. I stayed up way too late several nights in a row with this awesome read. Thank goodness I have book two ready to jump right into and book 3 just came out!

AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR D. L. ORTON lives in the Rocky Mountains where she and her husband are raising three boys, a golden retriever, two Siberian cats, and an extremely long-lived Triops. In her spare time, she's building a time machine so that someone can go back and do the laundry.

Excerpt Reveal for THE TRUTH OF VICTORY By CB Haight

A Powers of Influence Novel #3
    395 Pages
Genre: Modern Paranormal Fantasy/ Some clean romance

    She was gone....

Stolen from them by an old enemy, Collett and her secrets had drifted into nothingness on a misty fog. She saved them all and left them with more questions than answers.
For nearly three centuries, twin lycanthrope brothers, Cade and Jarrett, had been on opposite sides of an ongoing war. Now, because of Collett, the brothers are united in purpose to eradicate The Faction once and for all. The fierce warriors decide to do what comes naturally. They go hunting.
With the police now involved, demons to kill, and reminders of Collett surrounding them, the brothers find that taking down the evil organization is their greatest challenge.
How could they know that their enemies are also uniting under a power even more ancient than themselves?
In the third book of Powers of Influence, Cade and Jarrett learn that trials often shape a man for a purpose and that their destiny is much more significant than either one of them had imagined.

    Excerpt:

When Jarrett reached the top of the incline he shook his head to erase the unwelcome images. Then he looked out across the valley below and understood why Cade liked this place.
An early thaw had melted most of the ice that once covered a small lake within the center of the valley. Today, pregnant, heavy clouds rolled over mountaintops and hid the peaks within their gray depths. Beams of light broke through in small slivers that touched the green grasses peeking out of thinning snow.  All around the water, some trees released from their winter weight speared up, reaching for the sun. Others, still heavy with snow, bowed in reverence to the lake.
The beauty of the scene before him shattered when Jarrett glanced to the side and saw Cade at the edge of the precipice.
The heartache emanating from his brother was a thick, heavy cloud, and there was an anger simmering deep inside that Jarrett understood all too well.
Cade stood upon the peak as a large, black wolf. Being a wolf was easier. In this form, the animal instincts would be stronger than the pain. The basic urges and needs of the animal would outweigh his human thoughts.
His brother made no move to acknowledge the intrusion on his solitude, but Jarrett knew he heard. “There was a detective at the house today,” Jarrett told him. “He wants to talk to you.”
Cade tilted his head. Jarrett knew his twin needed a distraction, and lucky enough for Cade, Jarrett understood the need for such things better than most. They were not idle creatures by nature. The wolf inside them craved the hunt, it craved action, especially in a time like this.
Jarrett came out intending to fulfill that need. He wanted to take Cade away from this place and give him a point of focus. He knew staying here would only make things worse, in more ways than one. Jarrett understood that Hall hadn’t swallowed the group’s story about the drug lord. Plus, it could only help to get away from the things that reminded them of Collett.
“Get dressed, we’re leaving,” Jarrett said and threw clothes at the wolf. When Cade looked away, content to ignore him, Jarrett taunted, “Let’s go hunt down Victor and the rest of those Faction monkeys.” He lifted a brow in challenge and grinned when Cade glanced in his direction again. Jarrett saw hunger in his brother's amber eyes. It was the first time since Collett’s death he saw something besides the glazed emptiness. For now, that was enough.

    What People Are Saying:

Worth the wait! The final book answers all the questions, and I couldn’t put it down. I found myself reading all night even though I had to get my kids to school the next morning. The ending blew me away.
The characters feel so real and I have grown attached to them. I even found myself feeling sorry for some of the bad guys, and hoping they could see the error of their ways. My new favorite character was Detective Hall. He brings a fun element to this conclusion. It was great to see all the different relationships throughout this series.
I love this series, and hope to see more!

    ABout C. B. Haight ~

Camille Bateman Haight, was born and raised in Sandy Utah. She was born seventh in a family with eleven children. Growing up in a loving home she was taught strong principals. Among those lessons was first a love of God, second, a love for family, and third, a love for stories.
Her father helped  her mother learn to read after they were married. Together they taught their children the value of a good book and the hidden worlds between the pages.
Now as a mother of five girls, Camille passes those lessons to her own children. With a BA in communications, she found a way to turn her love of reading into a love for writing and hopes the messages hidden in those pages can inspire others.
Having settled in Utah County with her family, Camille spends her extra time bringing new characters to life.
Camille believes, a good story can lead us out of our darkest places. It should pull at you from within, challenge you to think, and bring forth a bond between you and the characters. The characters must be more than just names on a page. They should be your best friend or your most hated foe. A good story will make you laugh out loud or have tears slipping down your cheeks. It should feel real and engage you on every level.
