BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

 Parrish Cove Secrets Run Deep...

For Fourteen-year-old Aidan Reynolds, the archaeological dig at the Parrish Cove historical society is the only thing making the summer interesting.
That is until he meets Maddie, an unusual girl who has just moved to town and is convinced that there is more to the local legends surrounding the historical society than even he knows.  While Aidan may not believe her, the strange artifacts that are recovered from the dig force them into exploring the dark, twisted history of Parrish Cove and its strange doctor...a man who vanished over a century ago.
Together, they uncover a town secret that has been forgotten for centuries, and discover that there are some things that should stay buried.

Excerpt:

…The officer
started us back into the plaza at a
rapid walk. His clomping steps on the brick
walkway, and the heavy jingling of his belt gave
an air of strength. Although
Maddie was glued to
my side, I could feel her gaining confidence with each
step. We were probably running from a dog again.

“Here,” I said,
and started us back down the alley
past the Custom House.

“Did you see the
animal?” The officer asked.

“Yeah,” Maddie
responded.

“No,” I
corrected with glance at her.
“It was fast.”

The officer
clicked on his huge flashlight, casting
a blinding light down the alley ahead
of us. He quickly turned the light down the side
alleys as we passed them to
check for motion.
It
only lasted a moment before he swept the back
ahead of us
over the dumpsters and piles of
cardboard lining the alley. The beam was so
bright that it was possible to illuminate the brick walls on both sides.

Everything changed the moment we emerged into the park.

Born in California, he has spent most of his life traveling throughout the US. Drawing inspiration from his many adventures, turning that strange reality into fiction.
Over the years, he has found himself in many unusual situations, ranging from hanging off an 80 foot cliff-face in New York, to sailing off the coast of Salem, Massachusetts. He has hosted archaeological excavations, and have even reported from the middle of a police stand-off.
When a teacher asked him in the second grade what he wanted to be when he grew up, he didn't have an answer. To be honest, he still doesn't know. He just lets his characters make that decision.

Tormented throughout middle school, Ellie begins her freshman year with a new look: she doesn’t need to be popular; she just needs to blend in with the wallpaper.
But then the unthinkable happens and Ellie is trapped after a brutal assault. She wasn't the first victim and now she watches it happen again and again. She tries to hold on to her happier memories in order to get past the cold days, waiting for someone to find her.
The problem is, no one searches for a girl they never noticed in the first place.

Happy Book Birthday, Rebekah!

Seventeen-year-old Ellie Gebhardt has spent the last three years of high school in psychotherapy, trying to fix a very broken her. And her shrink (or therapist as she likes to be called) seems to think that in order to totally heal, she needs to recognize all the good and bad things that have led her to this point. As if a trip down memory lane will suddenly make her better.
She’s given a “homework” assignment to create two lists. One with nothing but happy memories and thoughts on it (otherwise known as the ‘happy rainbow farting unicorns list’). And the other with everything negative that Ellie thinks contributed to “the” day she could no longer cope.
So begins Ellie’s Douche Bag list (or D.B. List for short). And once she gets started, it’s hard to stop remembering all the jerks, the petty crap, the times she’d been bullied or the main focus of the rumor mill.
So when nice guy, Ky Laramie, walks into her life, Ellie instantly puts her shields up. But as she gets to know him and his family, she wonders if she can dare to put herself out there again. Because as everyone knows, once a candle is lit, the wind can always blow it out. And Ellie couldn’t handle it if Ky ends up atop of the D.B. List.

Blog Tour/World Building & Giveaway for THE TICK TOCK MAN by R.M. Clark

The Tick Tock Man by R.M. Clark
Publication Date:  May 2, 2017
Publisher:  Month9Books/Tantrum Books
GR

When the clocks in town stop, thirteen-year-old CJ discovers an unusual “clock world” where most of the citizens are clock parts, tasked with keeping the big clocks running. But soon the seemingly peaceful world is divided between warring factions with CJ instructed to find the only person who can help: the elusive Tick Tock Man.
With the aid of Fuzee, a partly-human girl, he battles gear-headed extremists and razor-sharp pendulums in order to restore order before this world of chimes, springs, and clock people dissolves into a massive time warp, taking CJ’s quiet New England town with it.

Author Post about the world building in his book

My previous five publications were mysteries, so the world-building needed for The Tick Tock Man was something I had to develop on the fly. The main character, CJ, is the storyteller, so the reader sees the new world unfolding as CJ does. The challenge was to build this new world slowly through short peeks. CJ goes in, then quickly comes back. For most young teens, that would be enough to scare them away for good. CJ is different. He knows his power is growing. He knows something is terribly wrong in the “other world.” Still, he’s only subject to a small portion of the world called The Sequence, a circular catwalk that connects all the great clocks in town. The structure is surrounded by mist and fog, so that keeps it mysterious.
Eventually, CJ meets Fuzee, a clock world citizen who is also part human. She knows her way around and eventually shows CJ the rest of her world, called Furtwangen. She acts as his guide as he tries to figure out why all the great clocks in town have stopped. Once inside the new world, the world-building task became easier. The citizens are clock parts and CJ easily assimilates himself into their world. With his newfound powers, they work together to end the conflict. By the end of the story, he is comfortable in either world.

According to Japanese legend, folding a thousand paper cranes will grant you healing.
Evelyn Abel will fold two thousand if it will bring Luc back to her.
Luc Argent has always been intimately acquainted with death. After a car crash got him a second chance at life—via someone else’s transplanted heart—he tried to embrace it. He truly did. But he always knew death could be right around the corner again.

Sick of hospitals and tired of transplants, Luc is ready to let his failing heart give out, ready to give up. A road trip to Oregon—where death with dignity is legal—is his answer. But along for the ride is his best friend, Evelyn.
And she’s not giving up so easily.
A thousand miles, a handful of roadside attractions, and one life-altering kiss later, Evelyn’s fallen, and Luc’s heart is full. But is it enough to save him? Evelyn’s betting her heart, her life, that it can be.

Nembutal isn’t a name I recognize. One of Luc’s medications? Something he wanted to try that he couldn’t get here? He didn’t tell me anything about it. I Google the name and get an array of results: Nembutal (pentobarbital), sedative and anticonvulsant. Used to treat tension, anxiety, nervousness, and epilepsy. Pentobarbital may induce death in high dosages and is used for euthanasia in both humans and animals.
My legs nearly give out.
The night Luc went to the hospital, I saw webpages open on his phone on euthanasia in Oregon. It hadn’t seemed right, and I hadn’t been able to wrap my head around it at the time, and so I’d shrugged it off and never even broached the subject with Luc. He could have been looking it up for any number of reasons. Curiosity brought about by temporary desperation.
This, though? This is a step further. This makes me feel cold all over.
The bathroom door swings open and Luc steps out. I hadn’t even heard the shower turn off. He’s dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, towel around his shoulders, and he
pauses when he sees me. “Evelyn?”
I could ignore it. I’m overreacting. I have to be…right? Yet I find myself turning to stare at him, holding up the business card and trying to keep my voice level. “What’s this?”
There’s a hitch in Luc’s step as he crosses the room to take it from me, and he won’t meet my eyes. “Just something someone gave me the other day. I don’t know.”
Any hope I had that this was some dumb misunderstanding is quickly fading. “Don’t lie to me.”
“It’s nothing,” Luc insists, pushing a hand back through his wet hair and turning away. “Just…don’t. I don’t want to—it’s not…”
“It’s not what? Not what I think it is?” My voice cracks near the end, and Luc goes still, as though he knows this entire conversation is about to hit the roof. I snatch my phone back up and read to him aloud: “Pentobarbital is contained in a group of drugs called barbiturates.”
“Evelyn…”
“Used to treat insomnia and seizures—”
“Evelyn.”
“—and for human euthanasia. Death in a bottle.” I lower the screen and stare at him, fighting back the overwhelming flood of tears threatening to reduce me to a complete mess. “Is that not what I think it is?”
Slowly, Luc turns to me, his expression one of guilt and grief and frustration. “I’m dying. You know that.”
I twist my fingers around my phone so tightly it hurts.“We’re all dying, Luc.”
“Some of us faster than others.”

I don't know what to say about  this  book that hasn't already been said but I was lucky enough to go straight from this fabulous book to the next in the series and if you like time travel or alternate history books you will fall in love with this series. I read them both in one day and then hated myself because I did not make them last longer.

Excerpt
I turn and head for my dad.  The sun is hot on my shoulders, and bright enough to make me squint. It’s a little toasty, even for Phoenix, but at least the mornings and nights have started to cool off. Dad has edged back from the crowd and found a shady spot by the building so we can have a little privacy. He waits until I reach him, and then his arms are around me. His words are warm in my ear. “You’re only half a second off the qualifying time.” There’s pride in his voice and the sound of it runs down my spine, raising goose bumps like a standing ovation.  “You know what that means?” he says.  “You can qualify at State this year. That’s three weeks, Ab. We’re that close.” He pulls back, a frown on his face as his hands rub my arms. “You’re shaking, honey.  You cold?  Where’s your towel?” “I’m not cold,” I say.  “I think I’m in shock.” I take a breath.  I’m still recovering maybe, because my lungs feel too tight. Dad looks back at the stopwatch in his hand and shakes his head.  I know he’s itching to get home and plot this on the chart that hangs in his office.  It’s gigantic, the chart.  On it he’s got all my times from every major meet since freshman year. This year, he added a side panel with qualifying times of the other sophomores across the country. This side panel isn’t about charting my personal best.  It’s about me being the best.  About winning Olympic gold. Maybe I am cold.  I shiver again.  I look into Dad’s eyes—a deep olive green, same as mine.  And I think, no, I’m just happy.  Dad was a world-class backstroker.  He would have been where I am if he hadn’t broken his collarbone in a freak accident his senior year of high school.  He never got his chance, but nothing will get in my way. I’m going to win gold for both of us.  Dad’s eyes are shiny.  He’s not a crier.  He’s more the tough guy—work hard and don’t whine.  But this wasn’t just any race.  We both knew I’d need to drop time if I’m going to have any hope. “You did it,” he says.  “You’re there, Ab.  You keep training, and you’re one swim away from an invitation to the United States Olympic team trials.”  He shakes his head, almost as if he can’t believe the words himself. I feel dizzy.  Because of his words, maybe.  The way his head is still moving.  The way there’s cold creeping up my neck and making my head feel numb. Dizzy. I suck in a breath.  My heart is trying to dent my ribs.  My lungs still ache. I want to smile at Dad.  This is amazing.  Life is amazing. First place.  Trials.  Connor. Smile, Abby.  Smile with Dad. Only, now Dad isn’t smiling either.  He looks dizzy.  No—wait.  He looks worried.  I’m the one who’s dizzy. Something. Is wrong.  I can’t breathe.
