BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Review For EAT, SLAY, LUZT by Jillian Stone-5*

Title: Eat, Slay, Luzt
Author: Jillian Stone
Genre: Zombie Apocalyptic Romance
Rating: * * * * *
Publishers: CreateSpace Independent Publishing
(Mar 9, 2017)
Paperback: 264 pages
ISBN: 978-1539617280
FTC Disclosure: ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley

Survival tip #1: When you’re caught in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, get a badass partner.
The zombie apocalypse is on, and Lizzy Davis is determined to survive any way she can. As a surgeon, she’s used to saving lives; not cutting into the basal ganglia to make sure the patient stays dead. When the refugee camp is overrun by zombie hordes, Lizzy manages to escape only to run into Black Hawk pilot Chris Oakley in the middle of the Syrian Desert. Lizzy and Chris fight off zombie attacks as they make their way toward a joint military air base northeast of Kirkuk. Just one problem, they’ll have to pass through the drone-patrolled DMZ— Dead Meat Zone. To get there, they form uneasy alliances with French-Arab commandos and a black ops interrogator who’s slowly rotting before their eyes. Along the way, Lizzy and Chris manage to find time for each other—the sizzling red-hot lovemaking kind of time. And who knows? They might have a chance at love if they live long enough.

This was such a fun read. I'm a sucker for most apocalyptic reads and especially a zombie one. Lizzy was one kick-ass character and I just loved her and Chris together. So if you want a deliciously hot zombie read that is short and sweet, take this for a ride.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

When you start writing, do you already have an ending in mind, or do you just let the narrative go where it takes you?

Ah yes, the old “Plotter vs. Pantser” dilemma!

Well, the fact is that I when I sit down to write I usually have at least a broad-strokes idea of where I want the story to go.  I don’t make outlines, except when called upon to do so by my agent or a publisher (and, even then, I usually don’t stick to them!).  I’m a big believer is letting the story take me where it will, and I’m often surprised.

Do you already have a set number of books that you plan to write in the series?

After the first Undertakers books was published, I had lunch with my then publisher to discuss the future of the series.  I originally had in mind seven books.  She had three.  We met in the middle a five.  Honestly, that’s how it went down!  But since there, I’ve been writing every novel with an eye toward a five-book story arc.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I love all aspects of writing, but I’d have to say my favorite is that moment when I type the last lines of a novel’s first draft.  It’s still only the beginning, since 80% of what I do is editing my own work.  But it’s still SO amazing to know that the story, which up until now has existed only in between my ears, is now written done and real!

Who are some of your favorite authors that you feel were influential in your work?  What impact have they had on your writing?

My favorite authors are Lee Child, Jackie Kessler, A.S. King, and Heather Brewer, not necessarily in that order.  I also enjoy David Baldacci and Terry Prachett more than a little bit.  As for who had the most influence on my work: I don’t know.  Part of being a writer is finding your own voice, and while I’ve certainly been inspired by these other authors, I’ve done my level best to make sure that the tone and voice of my writing is entirely my own.

What are some day jobs that you have held?  Did any of them impact your writing?

Oh, gosh.  I’ve been a computer programmer, a project manager, and – most recently – a business analyst.  I still do some business consulting on the side, writing business plans and requirements documents for companies.  But my first love is, and always has been, fiction writing.

What’s next for you?

With the Undertakers series “in the bag,” as the say, I’ve been working VERY hard on a new YA concept that I’ve called “Torq.”  I won’t give anything away.  Let’s just say I’ve putting my own spin on the superhero origin story.

QUICK FIRE INTERVIEW:

• Twitter or Facebook? Facebook!
• Favorite Superhero?  Tough one.  D.C.: Batman.  Marvel: The Hulk
• Favorite TV show? Doctor Who (I’m a nerd; sue me)
• Sweet or Salty? Both
• Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi
• Any Phobias? Stinging insects.  I’m an expert on them because I believe in knowing your enemy!
• What are you reading right now or what’s on your TBR? “The Warlock” by Michael Scott.  It’s the fifth book in his “Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel” series.  After that, I expect to dive into the sixth and final book.
• 2015 Movie you’re most looking forward to?  “Batman v. Superman!”  I really liked “Man of Steel” and can’t wait to see how Ben Afleck handles the dark knight!

Dead-Jed-Cover
Dead Jed is Shaun of the Dead meets Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Jed's not your typical junior high geek. He is, to use the politically-correct term, cardiovascularly-challenged. And while his parents have attempted to shield him from the implications of being 'different' for as long as they could (Jed was 8 and at a friend's sister's birthday party when he blew his lips off onto the cake in front of everyone, finally prompting the “Big Talk” from his parents and an emergency SuperGlue repair by his dad), 7th grade at Pine Hollow Middle School as a target of Robbie the supreme school bully and his pack of moronic toadies is rapidly becoming unbearable.
From being stuffed in a filled trash can as “dead meat” and into a trophy case as the bully's “prize,” to literally having his hand pulled off in the boys' room (Jed's always losing body parts. Luckily, a good stapler and some duct tape and he's back in the action) and a cigarette put in it and try to frame him for the recent reports of smoking in the school, Jed's had enough and is ready to plan his revenge. Besides, it's awesome what you can do when you're already dead!

Dead-Jed-2-Cover
The first part of seventh grade was rough on Jed, but things are looking up now that Christmas is almost here. As with past Christmases, Jed asks for the one thing he’s always wanted–a dog–and again, his parents tell him they’re not ready. But fate has a different plan when Jed sees a dog get run over by a car. Then, it happens. Jed suddenly has a pet, Tread, a zombie dog bearing his namesake–a tire tread down his back. Jed may have gained a dog, but he loses his best friend Luke, who fears the way Jed created his undead pet.
When Jed returns to school, he finds a mysterious group called the No Zombies Now Network spreading rumors of the dangers the undead pose to normal people. Forced to disprove Hollywood stereotypes, Jed has his work cut out for him as stories of a zombie dog begin to circulate. Jed could be expelled if he can’t expose the NZN Network as a fraud. Jed needs help from his kind of girlfriend Anna, especially after he discovers Luke has joined the shadowy group.
Once again navigating the treacherous waters of middle school, Jed does his best to stay in one piece. Only this time he’ll need even more duct tape and staples than usual.

Dead Over Heels by Alison Kemper-Review

Title: Dead Over Heels
Author: Alison Kemper
Genre:  Young Adult Paranormal Romance
Rating: * * * * *
Publishers: Create Space
(Sept 26, 2014)
Paperback: 264 pages
ISBN: 978-1502389022
FTC Disclosure: *I received a free eBook of this novel from Entangled Teen in exchange for a fair review.* and purchased an E-book from Amazon

The end of the world just might be their perfect beginning… Glenview, North Carolina. Also known—at least to sixteen-year-old Ava Pegg—as the Land of Incredibly Boring Vacations. What exactly were her parents thinking when they bought a summer home here? Then the cute-but-really-annoying boy next door shows up at her place in a panic…hollering something about flesh-eating zombies attacking the town. At first, Ava’s certain that Cole spent a little too much time with his head in the moonshine barrel. But when someone—or something—rotted and terrifying emerges from behind the woodpile, Ava realizes this is no hooch hallucination. The undead are walking in Glenview, and they are hungry. Panicked, Ava and Cole flee into the national forest. No supplies, no weapons. Just two teenagers who don’t even like each other fighting for their lives. But that’s the funny thing about the Zombpocalypse. You never know when you’ll meet your undead end. Or when you’ll fall dead over heels for a boy…

I'm always a sucker for a good zombie book and when I saw the local for this book, I just had to read it. As a foothills North Carolinian myself, I just had to see how the zombie apocalypse progressed. I've always told my kids when it hit that we would have a better survival rate than their big cities of Raleigh and Winston-Salem would. With being more sparsely populated, familiar with guns, bows and chainsaws, and having a large food distributor in our area, we just logically stand a better chance. But back to this wonderful book- it
is told both from Cole and Ava's POV, which ordinarily I don't like, but it so worked with this book. I loved the bantering in the first part of the book where the sickly city girl had to make do with the local redneck who was bound and determined to save her life. This was a fun, fast paced easy read that I pretty much read from start to finish in one night. After reading this, I'm off to read Kemper's Donna of the Dead which I understand takes place during the same zombie apocalypse.

The King of Clayfield by Shane Gregory * * * * *

Title: The King of Clayfield
Author: Shane Gregory
Genre: Zombie Horror
Rating: * * * * *
Publishers: brainofshane (November 18, 2011)

Kindle size: 549 KB (315 pages)
ASIN: B00619GYZ2
FTC Disclosure: Bought from Amazon

In the small town of Clayfield, Kentucky, an unsuspecting and unprepared museum curator finds himself in the middle of hell on Earth. A pandemic is quickly spreading around the globe, and in less than a day has turned most of the residents of Clayfield into murderous zombies. Having no safe haven to which he can flee, he decides to stick it out in his hometown. However, zombies are not his only concern. He must also contend with other survivors, his lack of skills, and his own conscience.
If he is smart, and a little lucky, he can do more than survive; he can live like a king.

New author for me that I ran across on www.BittenByBooks.com  just yesterday. Just love that you can read a sample of a book free from Amazon. Without a doubt, this sample of 5 or 6 chapters sucked me in so fast that within minutes I knew I would have to read the whole thing. One of the best and worst things about a Kindle- instant access to anything you can imagine!  Needless to say, I sat up until the wee hours devouring this book. If you love the “Walking Dead” this series is for you. I love that though the world is coming to an end due to a zombie apocalypse, the book is focused more on the people who are trying to survive this horror and their interactions with others.
While told from the narrator’s POV, a nerdy museum guy, totally unprepared for the end, you have no problem  seeing how it effects many of the other small-town people. I love the gradual evolving of this character from a mild meek Clark Kent to a butting kicking zombie killing superhero.
From a small rural community myself, I can so relate to the individuals and appreciate the advantages of living in the boonies yet having the Wal-Marts and Tractor Supplies within driving distance. Books like these have me appreciating the vast varieties of supplies they (and I) keep on hand. I just need to convince my husband that an eight foot  fence around the 30 acres is a necessity not a frivolity.
This was a very quick read and I've already purchased book two and am already hoping there will be many more books in this series. Hard to beat the price on this book and much, much more story here than you would think for a mere $3.

ZOMBIE LOVERS UNITE! WE FINALLY GOT US A SHOW!!!!

Braaaaaaainsss... and some chap stick would also be nice.
by Tim Surette TV.com Staff Write
AMC's The Walking Dead Will Arrive This Halloween
AMC's The Walking Dead is on its way! Mark your calendars for October 31, quite possibly the best premiere date for this new comic-book-turned-TV-show about zombies, and make sure to check out the gory, trailer here
Start stockpiling canned goods, shotgun ammunition, and water, and for God's sake get some plywood over those windows. The Walking Dead is/are coming.

AMC has announced the anticipated series' premiere date, and it's oh-so fitting: Halloween. October 31st. That's when we'll see the first episode of Frank Darabont's (Shawshank Redemption) take on Robert Kirkman's comic book series about the zombie apocalypse.
And for those of you disappointed that the first season will only be six episodes long, there's some good news. The first episode will run an extended 90 minutes. That's 30 extra minutes of watching survivor Rick Grimes shoot out the brains of the lumbering undead.
The extended trailer that premiered at this year's Comic-Con has been recut and is finally officially available in all its non-shakycam glory. Check it out here!
If you like zombies you gotta watch this trailer. I'm marking my calender in RED right now!
