BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Book Blitz For A CHANCE TO LOVE A HIGHLANDER By S.R. Mitchell

A Chance to Love a Highlander
Highland Chance Series #3
S.R. Mitchell
Genre: Historical Paranormal Romance
Cover Artist: Letitia at RBAdesigns

Elle was nothing like her sweet sister Anna and she never really expected to be. She enjoys what men can do for her.
She'd screwed up big time when she'd accidentally caused her sisters fall into the waters overboard, but at the same time it began their greatest adventure.
When Elle finds herself in the ghostly way--dead-- everything is put into perspective, but that will not change the feelings she has grown for one man even though she believes him forever lost to her.
Elle and Mikel have more in common than she realized.
They are both in for a surprise of epic proportions and only time will write their ending...

Excerpt:
~*~

Elle couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned, which only got her tangled up in the bedding. Between thinking about the fight and then the kiss, her brain wouldn’t shut off. It was filled with Mikel and worry about what to do.

He wanted her, but he was holding back, and it infuriated her. He knew she wanted him.

But how could she explain everything to him? This was a different time. He would think she was crazy or worse. Being a ghost was nothing she wanted to experience again anytime soon, but she’d made the stupid mistake of bearing all her emotions to Mikel.

Elle sighed and untangled the bedding from her body. She paced the room but couldn’t stop her mind from wandering back to Mikel. Maybe she’d go down to the kitchens and find something to munch on. She didn’t eat much before bed, and now she was hungry. She quickly dressed and snuck from her room. The castle at night was a tad creepy, and Elle found herself wandering around in the darkness, but she knew the corridors like the back of her hand. In an odd way, it was comforting to roam as she’d done in the past. She’d been able to explore at her leisure without ever being noticed.

~*~

Mikel watched her run the small ball of soap Anna had made her over her beautifully soft skin. The scent of flowers wafted into the air, adding another level of appeal.

He couldn’t pull his eyes from her. She was stunning.

Her wet skin did nothing to quail the rising temperature in his blood that caused his loins to twitch with need. The need to touch her, feel her, kiss her.

The bath had been brought up not long before he’d come in with the idea to join her. Steam from the boiled water wafted around Elle, adding to her lure, enticing Mikel closer without realizing his feet were moving.

She turned then, their eyes meeting, and a smile broke across her face, making his heart ache along with his body with need for her. He loved this woman with all his heart, and he would never grow tired of showing how much he loved her. He would cherish her body and soul.

“I wanted to wait for you, but the water was so nice and hot.” Elle giggled, sitting up slightly in the water so the tops of her breasts hovered above the water, giving him a tantalizing view. She knew exactly what she was doing as she continued to run the soap over her skin. Her eyes dropped to his tented kilt and she expelled the sensual sound of an excited and content woman. “Are you coming in to join me, or are you just going to stand there and watch me? This water will not stay nice and hot forever.”

Mikel smiled devilishly. He quickly removed his kilt and shirt before joining her in the hot water. He’d thought it ridiculous when his oldest brother Connor had the tub made, but now he was glad. It was plenty large enough for two. Her hands began to roam over his body with the soap as she pretended to wash him, every inch of him, but he knew what she was doing, and she’d pay for it shortly. He turned so they faced each other and realized he would never tire of this. He was content, and he could see in her eyes all the emotions she held in her heart, knowing she felt the same way.

“I missed you today,” she said quietly as she tossed the soap onto the floor. She ran her hands up his strong thighs as she leaned in to press a kiss to his lips. He growled deep in his chest. “Mine,” he whispered in a deep, throaty voice next to her ear before nipping at her neck. The strength she felt from him made her tingle. This was where she wanted to be. This was her home. She longed for this every night. She let her hands slide over his body, revelling in the feel of him. She loved how her touch turned him on so quickly.

Mikel hissed as she caressed him and threatened to undo him. “Lass,” he moaned as she gripped him tightly.

His hand found her heat and she moaned in return. They lavished each other’s body with attention. His blood pounded in his ears as her delicate hand found his hard flesh again and guided him to where she wanted him most.

He was all too happy to oblige.

Isolated and alone, Sin Evernight is one of the most powerful supernatural creatures in heaven and on earth. As an angel of vengeance, he hunts down the darkest evil, but when his long-lost friend, Layla Starling, needs him, he vows to become her protector. Even though she will be horrified by the man he has become.

Now a famous singer and the toast of London, Layla believes that Sin is only here to guard her from rabid fans and ardent suitors. However, the truth is far more sinister. Desperate to avoid losing Layla a second time, Sin will face a test of all his powers to defeat an unstoppable foe - and win an eternity with the woman he loves.

Definitely another 5 star win for Kristen Callihan!
I've been reading this series since book 1 came out and it's one of my favs, one of the few that I read immediately upon release. It has paranormal romance and historical fiction mixed in with a dash of steampunk, three of my favorite genres. Callihan as usual has intermingled these genres in yet another wonderful tale. While we've met Sin before, Layla is a new and unique creature called a "Damnation". As she knows nothing of this paranormal London, she is surprisingly adaptable to what's going on in her life. I loved the romance between Sin and Layla, but felt a sense of sadness as this series comes to an end. I loved the brief interactions with many of the couples we've met in the past and am really going to miss this wonderful world. Make sure you read this series in order so that you get the whole picture. I almost wish I hadn't read them all so I'd have this whole series to binge read.

EXCERPT:
One might think being an immortal was a blessing, never grow old, never grow sick, never die. At one time in St. John Evernight’s life, he considered it a blessing too. He would be around long after the simple humans who surrounded him were nothing but dust. They could stare all they liked at his “strange” hair and frosty green eyes. They could gossip and speculate about him until they lost their voices. It didn’t matter. He was untouchable, and they were but fragile sacks of blood and bone.
How naive he’d been. Because living forever merely meant a lack of escape from the desolation of regret and loneliness. He knew now that he could walk down Jermyn Street endlessly, see the sands of time shift and rearrange before him, and never be a part of life.
“Brooding, Mr. Evernight?”
Sin almost jumped at the sudden sound of Augustus’s voice by his side. Damn, the blasted man loved to startle him. He gave Augustus a passing glance. Dressed in conservative brown tweed and a bowler hat, the angel appeared every inch the English gentlemen, save for his dark coloring that marked him to be from Southern climes.
“It’s really quite the trick, popping up like a soap bubble whenever you choose, Augustus. You must teach me how one day.”
The man’s mouth twitched. “With your luck, you’d pop up in the middle of a parliamentary session.”
Yes, Sin had abominable luck. Or perhaps it was more a matter of making abominable choices.
“You’re brooding again,” Augustus remarked.
“I’m not brooding. This is simply my face.”
Augustus snorted but remained silent as they walked along, past Trafalgar Square and down Whitehall.
“Care to tell me why you called me here?” Sin asked, when they came upon the grounds of Westminster. For the past year, Sin had been in Rome, soaking in the warmer temperatures, drinking espresso in cafes along the Piazza della Rotunda, under the shade of the ancient Pantheon. He’d eaten simple but delicious food, and listened to the rapid fire of Italian, and felt…well, not peace, but a measure of contentment.
Until Augustus had sent for him. Returning to England sat like a stone in his gut. But he would obey. Augustus was his mentor, and the man who’d given him salvation. The price was a lifetime of servitude. To be fair, his role was for justice, not evil, which was a nice change of pace.
A massive dray rattled past, kicking up dust and sending a fug of stale manure into the air. They hurried past the cloud and headed for Westminster Abbey. Sin hadn’t planned on visiting today, but here they were all the same. He wondered if Augustus somehow had led him to their usual meeting place or if Sin had merely headed that way because of the man’s sudden arrival.
He’d like to think the latter. It did not sit well with him having another control his actions. Not since a certain evil fae had kept Sin as a blood slave for years. Even now, the memory made his stomach turn.
Not a soul acknowledged them as they walked through the abbey and into the cloisters. Here, a rare bit of sunlight peeked through the constant cloud cover and cast lacy shadows along the walkway. The sound of their boot heels clacked out a steady rhythm as they strolled along.
 “Layla returns to London tonight.”
At the mention of her name, Sin’s heart stilled within his breast. He’d tried his best to ward off all finer feelings, to remain numb, detached from life. And yet he could not, for the life of him, remain immune to Layla Starling. His childhood friend. The one woman who could take his breath, his reason, simply by laying eyes upon her.
Stuffing his shaking hands into his trouser pockets, Sin forced himself to keep an even tone. “So then I am to begin watching over her?”
God, but he did not want to. It would be agony, staying so close to her and never being allowed to show his true feelings. And yet a thrum of anticipation went through him at the mere prospect of seeing Layla once more.
“Are you ready?” Augustus asked, though his expression told Sin he fully expected an affirmative answer.
So Sin told him the only truth left to him. “I will not fail her.”

Once blissfully in love . . . Poppy Lane is keeping secrets. Her powerful gift has earned her membership in the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals, but she must keep both her ability and her alliance with the Society from her husband, Winston. Yet when Winston is brutally attacked by a werewolf, Poppy's secrets are revealed, leaving Winston's trust in her as broken as his body. Now Poppy will do anything to win back his affections . . .

Their relationship is now put to the ultimate test.Winston Lane soon regains his physical strength but his face and heart still bear the scars of the vicious attack. Drawn into the darkest depths of London, Winston must fight an evil demon that wants to take away the last hope of reconciliation with his wife. As a former police inspector, Winston has intelligence and logic on his side. But it will take the strength of Poppy's love for him to defeat the forces that threaten to tear them apart.

This book was a bit harder to get into than the others in this series. It seemed to drag on and there was a lot more drama in it. I did enjoy seeing Poppy and Winston try to mend their marriage of 14 years after Winston discovers the supernatural world when he  is bitten by a werewolf. He is not a happy camper when he discovers his wife is up to her ears in this and has been lying to him their whole marriage. I so love a second chance at love and Callihan does an excellent job with this. One of the biggest treats was the secondary characters which gets their own book next. All in all another great read.

Now Adam's kindness is an unexpected refuge, and Eliza finds that some vows are made to be broken . . .

This is a series that I continue to read without being entirely sure what draws me to it. In general, I'm not overly fond of urban fantasy that has demons and angels as characters in them. But this series just has so much more, shifters, fae, magic and  twisty romance that continues to draw me back time after time. Each book has a different romance while still touching on the earlier characters that I've met and grown to love. I read several reviews where this was the first book in the series that they had read. This is a series that really, really needs to be read in order so that you have the background of each of the romances. I love the setting in historical London and the constant action that keeps you reading late into the night. Can't wait for Sin's story in the upcoming
"Forevermore".

The Vampire Voss by Colleen Gleason – 4 *

Title: The Vampire Voss                     2
Author: Colleen Gleason
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Rating: * * * *
Publishers Date: March 22, 2011
Paperback: 384 pages
ISBN: 9780778329527
FTC Disclosure: E-copy from Net Galley

“Regency London - a dizzying whirl of balls and young ladies pursued by charming men. But the Woodmore sisters are hunted by a more sinister breed: Lucifer's own. Voss, also known as Viscount Dewhurst, relishes the sensual pleasures immortality affords. A member of the Dracule - a cabal of powerful, secretive noblemen marked with a talisman that reveals their bartered souls - the mercenary Voss has remained carefully neutral...until Angelica. Angelica Woodmore possesses the Sight, an ability invaluable to both sides of a looming war among the Dracule. Her very scent envelops Voss in a scarlet fog of hunger - for her body and blood. But he is utterly unprepared for the new desire that overcomes him - to protect her.”

Having read the “Gardella Chronicles” by Gleason and loving them, I was tickled to death to see her new trilogy of historical paranormals. While the level of mystery and suspense wasn’t there as it was in the “Gardella” books, the sex level was definitely sizzling. I love the world that Gleason has created and especially the albatross that is around the neck of every vampire. The first thing they see upon waking (cat, dog, diamonds, a bird) is something that weakens them and can be used to control them. This is definitely a darker read than a lot of paranormal romance out there and I love this darker vampire world.
While I didn’t care for Voss in the beginning, he did begin to grow on me and by the end I thoroughly enjoyed the bantering between him and Angelica. She is a much younger, livelier young woman than her sister, Maia, who is very straight laced. She’s funny and an excellent match for Voss.  This book was a very fast read for me and I pretty much read it from start to finish in hours. Luckily I have the next two books in this series and can start them immediately.
