BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

LET'S GIVE 'EM SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT . . .
If gossip is the lifeblood of a small town, then Lizzy Logan has been its beating heart. After being dumped by her fiancé for another woman, she could have decided to crawl under a rock. But no, she'd rather really set tongues wagging by "moving on" with one of the hottest cowboys in Texas, who happens to live next door at the Lucky Penny Ranch. Those busybodies don't have to know it's actually all pretend. And just because Lizzy has no aim to tame her wild, blue-eyed neighbor doesn't mean she can't enjoy the ride of her life.

Toby Dawson never was and never will be the settling-down type. But what harm could there be in agreeing to be Lizzy's pretend boyfriend? They'll put on a show for a few weeks and be done. Yet the more he gets to know Lizzy-really know her-the harder it is for him to keep his hands off of her in private. Soon this rough-and-ready cowboy is hoping to heal Lizzy's bruised heart and turn their fake affair into a true romance . . .

Hot Cowboy Nights – RWB Excerpt

Lizzy let herself into the house quietly and went straight to her room. She heard the rattle of glass as her mother unloaded the dishwasher, but Lizzy didn’t want to talk to or see anyone that night. Especially her mother. Mama would’ve immediately sniffed out the lie, and the house would have exploded if Lizzy had admitted that she’d been screwing around with Toby Dawson almost every day for three weeks.
It was nothing short of a miracle that they hadn’t gotten caught.
Already the rumors were hovering like buzzards waiting for roadkill. From day one the Lucky Penny couldn’t buy an ounce of good luck, and everything that happened on the ranch was fodder for the gossip mill. Half the folks in Dry Creek, Texas, were hoping that Blake and his family joined the long list of owners who failed at trying to make the Lucky Penny a profitable ranch. The other half was rooting for the three Dawsons—Blake, Toby, and their cousin, Jud, who would be joining them in the fall.
Lizzy pulled off her boots, kicked them somewhere close to the closet door, and changed into a faded nightshirt that she pulled from last week’s laundry still tossed in the rocking chair in the corner. Cleanliness was a virtue, according to the Good Book, but neatness was not mentioned. Unlike her sisters, Allie and Fiona, Lizzy must have been out chasing butterflies or playing with baby lambs when they passed out neatness be- cause she didn’t get a bit of it.
She fell back on the bed, legs dangling off the side and her head nowhere near a pillow. Staring at the ceiling with nothing but the small bedside lamp to light the room, she let the past run through her mind again for the hundredth time since Mitch had called to tell her he loved another woman. He and the preacher’s daughter had decided to become missionaries, and he would preach at the little church they’d gone to Mexico to build.
Her world had shattered. And then Toby had taken her in his arms at Blake and Allie’s wedding and she realized maybe all wasn’t over for her after all. He’d charmed her and made her feel alive again—like a woman to be desired. It hadn’t ended with the dance but they’d talked on the phone, exchanged text messages, and when he moved to town they were both primed and ready for a hot little affair. But that night when Allie told them she was having a girl, Lizzy knew it was time to end the secretive, wild nights.
Lizzy crawled under the covers and turned out the light.
So which was she? A sweet little preacher’s-wife type who would let her husband lead her around by his every whim, like she’d been with Mitch? Or a brazen hussy, like the loose women who’d founded Audrey’s Place, who took what she wanted from life and didn’t have any regrets?
She’d far rather be the latter if she had to choose. She’d come out of the Mitch experience a stronger woman than ever, and she’d been honest when she told Toby that it hadn’t made her shy away from guys in general. And it damn sure hadn’t made her feel sorry for herself. It had taught her to be brutally honest and not let anyone try to change her into something she wasn’t.
She picked up her phone to check for a sexy text message from Toby, but there was nothing. Nada. Nil. Zilch. Not a single missed message. Finally she wrote one to him: Changed my mind. See you tomorrow at six at Mama’s store.
With one thumb on the delete button and the other on the send button, she sat there in the darkness, her body telling her to send the message and her heart telling her that she was in for misery if she didn’t press delete.

OLIVIA DECODED 1600x2400

Olivia
This isn’t my Jack, who once looked at me like I was his world. The guy who’s occupied the better part of my mind for eight months.
This is Z, criminal hacker with a twisted agenda and an arsenal full of anger.
Olivia’s spent the past year trying to get her life on track. New school. New friends. New attitude. But old flames die hard, and one look at Jack—the hacker who enlisted her into his life and his hacking ring, stole her heart, and then left her—and every memory, every moment, every feeling comes rushing back. But Jack’s not the only one resurfacing in Liv’s life.
Jack
If there was any part of her that still wanted me, even a little, I’d never be able to let her go. But I couldn’t do that to her. She deserves better than a criminal like me.
When a stalker hell-bent on scaring Liv and framing Jack enters Liv’s life, Jack and Liv will have to work together to find out who it is before someone gets hurt, or worse. But can Liv learn to trust Jack again, when he can’t—or won’t—give up his life of hacking for good?

OLIVIA TWISTED 1600x2400

Olivia
He tilts my chin up so my eyes meet his, his thumb brushing lightly across my lips. I close my eyes. I know Z is trouble. I know that being with him is going to get me into trouble. I don’t care.
At least at this moment, I don’t care.
Tossed from foster home to foster home, Olivia’s seen a lot in her sixteen years. She’s hardened, sure, though mostly just wants to fly under the radar until graduation. But her natural ability with computers catches the eye of Z, a mysterious guy at her new school. Soon, Z has brought Liv into his team of hacker elite—break into a few bank accounts, and voila, he drives a motorcycle. Follow his lead, and Liv might even be able to escape from her oppressive foster parents. As Liv and Z grow closer, though, so does the watchful eye of Bill Sykes, Z’s boss. And he’s got bigger plans for Liv…
Z
I can picture Liv’s face: wide-eyed, trusting. Her smooth lips that taste like strawberry Fanta.
It was just a kiss. That’s all. She’s just like any other girl.
Except that she’s not.
Thanks to Z, Olivia’s about to get twisted.

Publisher: Crimson Romance
Length: 66k words
Format: Digital
Digital ISBN: 978-1-4405-9151-8

Synopsis:
Commercial real estate mogul Rachel Reed is the one person her father can depend on, so when he walks into her Philadelphia office two weeks shy of her fortieth birthday to drop a personal and professional bomb, she rises to the occasion. She will help get his independent professional baseball team up and running before the inaugural season, and then … she will sell the team to recoup his substantial investment. It’s a tall order, but Rachel knows one thing for sure: a sexy nuisance from her past and a few acres of trees won’t stand in her way.

Former minor-leaguer-turned-landscaper Sam Sutter is surprised to find his brother’s ex in the woods behind the house he bought when he cashed out his signing bonus and said so long to baseball. He’s even more surprised to learn “his” trees are on her chopping block. There’s no way he’ll desecrate his nature-loving mother’s memory by letting that happen. But butting heads with the beautiful business woman is a tricky task that leads Sam to accept a position as head groundskeeper at her father’s stadium. Working under Rachel’s watchful, smoldering eyes might be Sam’s undoing.

Excerpt One:
He didn’t trust her, and that was even before she tilted her head and regarded him through narrowed eyes. “You of all people must be excited about my father bringing professional baseball to Arlington.”
Here we go. Sam shrugged. “I don’t really follow baseball these days.”
“That’s a shame. Sam used to play for the …” she looked from Wes back to Sam, “The Cubs, right?”
Sam nodded once and added, “Never made it out of the minors.” Why sugarcoat it? Chasing “the bigs” in a rusty bus, believing he was the next big thing, caused him to miss out on a lot of things. He was still trying to make up for some of that.
Again he thought of his mother, and this time the guilt was almost too much to swallow.
“What are you doing now?” Rachel asked, surprising him, not because he expected her to keep tabs on his career, but because she’d never been the kind to care much about other people—at least that had been his experience when she’d labeled him “whiny little Sammy” who was always trying to come between her and Luke.
“I’m working for my dad,” he said with little genuine interest in keeping this conversation going.
“Just like me.”
Except he wasn’t like her, and he couldn’t leave that assumption hanging between them. “We’re nothing alike, Rachel. For starters, I would never even think about cutting down these trees. That would be a really shitty thing to do.”
She shrugged. “What can I say, Sammy? Progress can be painful, but in the end, it’s the best thing for everyone.”
“Because the best thing for you is the best thing for everyone?” He scoffed. She hadn’t changed one bit in twenty years. “Try telling that to the birds.” Sam looked at the wide-eyed man taking this all in beside her, and nodded curtly. “Nice to meet you.”
But that was a lie. It would only be nice if the guy drove back to Pittsburgh without touching a single tree. If one trunk fell … Sam hated to even think about it. Thank God his nature-loving mother wasn’t alive to see this.
He wandered off with Babe beside him and the warbler overhead, craving the usual Sunday peace and quiet, but he kept hearing phantom chainsaws and wood chippers. How much parking did the Reeds need? Surely they wouldn’t cut down all of this. He reached out and let almond-shaped leaves tickle his palm. But what if they did? What if he had to say goodbye to Sunday walks and evening fireside chats with his dad? And what if he had to look out his kitchen window and see a baseball stadium every damn day. He stopped. Babe stopped, too.
That was not going to happen.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Name your top 3 favorite things (other than writing) to do and why:
I love a night at the ballpark! I love the atmosphere and an oversized beer in an ice-cold can. For that matter, I love going to college football games and NHL games, too. (If the weather is decent, I don’t mind NFL games, either, but I’m a fair-weather fan for sure. I’d rather watch on TV from the comfort of my own home.)
I love sitting on my front porch and having a glass of wine with my husband, or if he’s not around, I love sitting out there and reading.
I love going out with friends, trying new restaurants and wines, laughing and sharing stories. I’m blessed to have some tremendously entertaining people in my life.

Using just 5 words, how would you describe Sam & Rachel's love affair?
Unexpected, unpredictable, intense, inconvenient, and everlasting.

I'd like to ask the author how do they choose their locations? Is it a location that is special to you?
I choose places where I’ve spent significant amounts of time. For instance, I live in Pittsburgh, so I write about it often. In this case, Arlington is a fictional town, but it is based on several Pennsylvania towns I’ve had the privilege of visiting. Even though you can’t actually visit Arlington, Pa., the towns and small cities that crop up out of their rural Pennsylvania surroundings are very special to me, because they are the places of my youth.

What was your favorite part about writing the book and is there a character you had the most fun with?
Writing the dialogue between Sam and Rachel was a blast. I couldn’t wait to sit down every morning and see what they would come up with. Some of Sam’s comebacks were priceless. He was definitely the character I had the most fun with.

How long did it take to write the book and tell us a little about your writing process?
This book took a little longer than most, because I added some extra time to my writing schedule and purposefully slowed my pace. From outline to finished copy it probably took four months. My process changes constantly. Right now, I am heavy into outlining. It’s nothing for me to spend a couple months tinkering with my outline and daydreaming about my characters. Then, I spend extra time revising after the first draft is written, so I actually spend the least amount of time getting the meat of the story down on paper.

What do you hope readers will take away from reading this book?
I want readers to realize that it’s never too late. It’s never too late to follow your dreams. It’s never too late to repair strained or broken family relationships. And it’s most definitely never too late to fall in love.

Author Bio:
Elley Arden is a born and bred Pennsylvanian who has lived as far west as Utah and as far north as Wisconsin. She drinks wine like it’s water (a slight exaggeration), prefers a night at the ballpark to a night on the town, and believes almond English toffee is the key to happiness.
Elley has been reading romance novels since she was a sixteen-year-old babysitter, sneaking Judith McNaught and Danielle Steele novels off the bookshelves of the women who employed her. To say she’d been sheltered up to that point is an understatement. No one had ever told her women could live bold, love freely, and have sex lives that were exciting and fulfilling. (They don’t teach these things in Catholic school!) Now that she knows, she’s happy to spread the word. The women she writes about may be fictional, but the success, respect, and love they find on the page is a universal right for women everywhere.

This had several of my favorite activities-baseball, gardening & romance- so it was  a natural choice when it came to picking it up to read. Our small town has few entertainment choices but the American Legion baseball team is one that we enormously enjoy watching. We had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see San Francisco's World Series winning pitcher, Madison Bumgarner, grow from a little league ballplayer to the accomplished pitcher he is today at this ball field. This love of baseball has had me reading several sports romances recently and "The Change Up" is definitely one of the more enjoyable ones. I loved that this was a minor league baseball team and loved the inclusion of some of the day to day running of said team. The romance was while not exactly a second chance romance but sort of. I loved that the guy was younger as this definitely lead to several funny exchanges. The characters were very down to earth and the issues were very relatable. Rachel is 40 so this wasn't a new adult romance, another plus for me. I definitely recommend this wonderful book and intend to pick up some more of her romances.

Lady Marguerite Vadnay and her trusty
automaton, Outil, have settled into life in New France rather well. Marguerite
is top of the class at flight school and her future as an aerpilot is nearly
secure. She has everything she wants— except a commission on the pirate hunting
dirigible The Renegade. Using every card in her aristocratic arsenal,
Marguerite wiggles her way onto the finest warship France has to offer. But as
usual, Marguerite’s plans endanger the lives of those she holds dear— only this
time no one else is going to save them. As Marguerite and Outil set off on a
rescue mission they may not return from, she finally realizes it’s time to
reorder her cogs.

This steampunk adventure is littered
with facts from The Golden Age of Piracy and follows (not too closely) some of the
lives and adventures of the brave men and women who sailed the seas as
privateers, pirates and soldiers.

Leigh Statham
was raised in the wilds of rural Idaho, but found her heart in New York City.
She worked as a waitress, maid, artist, math teacher, nurse, web designer, art
director, thirty-foot inflatable pig and mule wrangler before she settled down
in the semi-quiet role of wife, mother and writer. She resides in North
Carolina with her husband, four children, five chickens and two suspected
serial killer cats. If the air is cool and the sun is just coming up over the
horizon, you can find her running the streets of her small town, plotting her
next novel with the sort of intensity that will one day get her hit by a car.
