BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Worse yet, captured by the English. Using her wits and ability to wrap men around her little finger, she survives long enough to be rescued by a band of Scotsmen. One of them, a rigid Highland chieftain determined to protect his country, rarely lets her out of his sight. A man, as it turns out, who is immune to her allure…or so it seems.
From the moment Clan MacLomain decides to save Scotland’s history, Laird Conall Hamilton knows he needs to be part of it. What he does not foresee is a beautiful twenty-first century actress crossing his path. More so, that they end up caught in an obligatory kiss that sparks an infamous battle. A kiss, as Fate would have it, that takes them on an adventure through time to both the Action at Earnside Skirmish and the Action at Happrew.
Joining first Sir William Wallace then King Robert the Bruce, Conall and Lindsay end up on a journey that will leave neither unscathed. Though determined to keep each other at arm’s length, desire simmers, reeling them ever closer. Inner demons are faced as they navigate a powerful connection neither saw coming. Remember how it feels to fall in love? —   * Race against the clock through a dystopian nightmare. —   * Climb naked into an untested time machine (carrying a seashell and a promise). —   * Wake up 20 years younger, buck naked and mortally wounded, with your heart in your throat. —
    — This is a perilous journey of passion, loss, and redemption that will have your pulse galloping and your palms sweating, make you laugh out loud through your tears, and leave you flush with the sublime pleasure of being in the arms of the one you love.

Oh, my! What a ride! This was a very fast paced read and even at over 400 pages, I flew through it.  I know that this is sci-fi but it seemed so believable and possible. The combination genre of time travel, sci-fi, suspense and romance made this book about as close to perfect as it gets. I stayed up way too late several nights in a row with this awesome read. Thank goodness I have book two ready to jump right into and book 3 just came out!

Julia holds the key that may break the time space barrier into the distant past shaping the future outcome for the inhabitants of Earth.

With the help of time tracker, Ruben Callaway, and his team, a window of time approaches which may allow Julia to spin through a loop of time between the parallel universes back home.

Will Julia find her way home before time runs out?

"If you love time travel romance, drama, and thriller suspense novels, this book is a must read!"

    Prologue
    Present Day, ATTRA Lunar City

Charlie watched Monica, the Commander of the Alien Time Travel and Research Agency (ATTRA) unsheathe a nine-inch, pencil-thin, razor-sharp knife. Monica casually walked around
her desk to stand in front of the new female recruit kneeling on the shinyblack marble tile and slit the woman's throat.
Turning to face Charlie, Monica narrowed her eyes and said, “I caught this whore hacking into my personal computer system. Dedria denied it, but I walked in, and my screen was up.”
Charlie stood at attention with her hands clasped behind her back. Her heart was pounding at the brutal death of the innocent woman. Charlie had hacked Monica’s system and been summoned to the gateway before she had time to replace the screen into the sleeve of the wall. Monica returned early from her mission and caught Dedria in her office and assumed the worst, slitting her throat before Charlie could confess to the crime.
Monica stepped over to her oblong glass desk. She pulled a tissue from her drawer, then wiped the blood off the knife and returned it to its sheath that hooked on the belt of her uniform. Taking a seat in the ergonomic white leather chair, she said,
“Charlie, you have real potential. Are you up for a challenge?”
“Yes, Commander.” Charlie stared out the wall of windows facing the Milky Way. She'd
arrived at Lunar City shortly after tripping on acid at Woodstock in 1969. She apparently fell through a time portal on the farm.
Charlie wished she could remember what happened the day of the concert, but she’d been too
wasted. Not that it mattered because she was on a permanent trip now, like something right out of a science fiction novel.
During Charlie's ATTRA training, she’d learned that after the Lord Supreme had created the
Earth, the moon was brought in and placed in perfect orbit to stabilize the planet. The magnificent city within the interior structure of the luminous silver moon housed several thousand people working for the organization overseeing humanity, tracking Time Spinners, negotiating with alien  interlopers, while deflecting debris catastrophic to Earth's existence.
ATTRA worked to coordinate parallel universes and alternate realities to keep Earth's path on
course to a future utopian society.
Charlie had been placed under Monica's authority, and with ATTRA’s strict protocols, it made interference on the injustice she’d just witnessed impossible. Earth was approaching a critical time shift based on the Time Trackers’ paradigm coming in from around the world.
Monica motioned for Charlie to sit in the white chair opposite of the desk. “Zane has informed me the Lord Supreme recently assigned Ruben to monitor a Spinner crossing the
threshold on June 15, 1948 at 1500 hours.”

Charlie straightened her spine in the chair at the mention of Ruben, her friend, and
    mentor.
Monica said, “The Spinner’s name is Julia Boatwright from North Carolina, born May 5, 1927. She'll give birth to a son, the first human physicist to break the barrier of the space-time continuum into the distant past. Ruben’s assignment is to protect Julia. He’s unaware of the child. Your assignment is to kill Ruben and bring me the girl.”
Monica swiveled back and forth in the chair with a glazed look in her eyes. “The Plates of
Prophecy state the time machine developed by Julia’s son will travel into the far distant past. If I can train the boy, I’ll control the historical events on Earth and use the information to barter with the more advanced civilizations in the galaxies. General Agriaous and I have set up colonization of a new planet, Veetreous, from the Andromeda Galaxy, and I need more Spinners.”
Charlie’s eyes widened. She leaned forward placing her right hand on the desk. “You’re talking about the lives we’ve sworn to protect. And kill Ruben? He’s one of our best Trackers.”
With a wave of her hand, Monica scoffed, “For space sake wipe off that lovesick expression. I
admit Ruben is very good-looking, and well, not bad as a lover. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you knew we slept together. Do you want to end up on my marble floor, Charlie?” A slow smile crept across Monica's face as Charlie's cheeks reddened.
“No, ma’am. But if the Lord Supreme learns of you and General Agriaous using Spinners as slave labor, it’ll be your head on the floor.”
“Silence! May I remind you that you’ve sworn allegiance to me.” Throwing her hands up, palms out, Monica said, “Look, Charlie, Ruben's a threat to me. He wants my job, and I won't allow it. That girl and her child are not only my ticket to a seat on the council but will also make me the Queen of Veetreous. If you play your cards right, you’ll have more power than you’ve ever dreamed possible. I’m issuing you a direct order, Charlie. Be discreet and make Ruben’s death look like an accident after he meets Ms. Boatwright, and I'll consider making you the new Commander.”
Charlie clenched her teeth and then replied, “Yes, Commander.”
Monica motioned to the sliding glass doors. “Pick up the details of your assignment with Zane
outside, then send him in to clean up this mess. You're dismissed.”
Charlie turned on a dime and marched out of Monica’s office. She grabbed the assignment chip and raced down the corridor, ducking into an alcove to gather her wits.
Charlie had to warn Ruben. But how? Last she'd heard, Ruben had traveled in the Needle-Horn to 1950. Betraying Commander Monica Adams meant immediate execution, but Monica
was out of control, and someone had to do something to stop the power-hungry  maniac.
Charlie headed to the gateway for a quick trip to 1950.

    Excerpt:
“All right, lead the way, kidnapper,” Samantha declared. “But I hope to heck it’s in the direction of your fortress because last I checked you had an ailing father and a best friend turned king who needs you.” Bjorn ignored her sarcasm and frowned as he nudged her along through the forest. Näv had done him no favors with Samantha’s outfit, and well the devious seer likely knew it. Now she wore brown, fitted leather pants and a snug jerkin that did nothing to hide her figure. Naturally, the feisty redhead swayed her hips invitingly though they traveled over rougher and rougher terrain. And by Loki’s balls, he knew she did it on purpose. “So, when are you gonna tell me why you’re avoiding your family and obligations just for little old me?” she finally said. Samantha had a strange way of saying things. He understood her meaning more so because of her various, unending expressions than because of her actual words. As it was, the Yggdrasill allowed them to understand one another’s language but not necessarily the slang terms or twenty-first century sayings. So there was room for interpretation. Or at least there would be with any other woman besides Samantha. His eyes remained locked on her swaying backside. She made things pretty clear. “Bjorn?” She stopped short, and he walked right into her. Like the night before, they both froze. Unable to control himself, he leaned down, nuzzled close and inhaled the scent of her soft, thick hair. It smelled of sweet flowers that had warmed in the sun all day. “Bjorn,” she whispered and turned ever-so-slowly, curling into him like a cat might her master…like a sweet little dragon might her captor. He licked his lips, eager to play her game. Curious to see how far she would take it. “Did you know I’ve got a thing for you?” she purred as she flicked her tongue along the side of his neck and her hand trailed up his thigh. “Since the moment I saw you in that cave in the mountain.”
“Did you really?” he murmured, remembering well her appreciation for all men present. But hell if he wasn’t enjoying this. So he grabbed her backside with one hand and more than relished the gasp she released when he yanked her close. “Tell me more. ”She swallowed, unsure for a moment before she continued, her voice ridiculously sultry. “How could I not?” she murmured. “You were all big and strong and…”
When her hand closed over the hilt of the dagger at his waist, his hand closed around hers and squeezed. “And what, Samantha?” he whispered close to her ear. Yet again their eyes met and narrowed on each other except this time their lips were inches apart. Her heartbeat quickened. So did his. He squeezed her backside while slowly guiding her hand to pull his dagger out and press it to his side. Bjorn repositioned it until one good thrust would be all it took. “Is this what you want, woman? To end me?” Their eyes continued to hold, but she said nothing. Yet something happened. Something he didn’t expect.

While caring for his ailing sister, Denny must discover a way to recharge his device before he’s left with no defense against a past that wants him dead.
Before long, Denny notices a mysterious stranger following him—keeping tabs on Denny, his family, and his friends. Is Denny just paranoid? Or maybe he isn’t alone in this new reality after all…
When his chaser is stolen and his girlfriend is kidnapped, Denny risks everything to get both of them back. 1. Rewinder (2014)

    2. Destroyer (2016)

I had the great joy of getting to read book 1, Rewinder, and then getting to jump right into Destroyer, within minutes. I have loved time travel books since I read The Man Who Folded Himself back in the '70's.
The only other book that was close to these was The Time Traveler's Wife.
This series is action packed and I was totally unable to put it down. The story could have ended with Rewinder as there was a definite ending to it. Destroyer leaves you with more of a cliffhanger that will leave you anticipating at least one more book in this series. This book is also an alternate history dystopian and has just a touch of romance. You totally need to have read book 1 to enjoy this book (which was fabulous).  It's a relatively quick read at only 252 pages, so just the right size for YA readers.

You will never read Denny Younger’s name in any history book, but the world as you know it wouldn’t be the same without him. Denny was born into one of the lowest rungs of society, but his bleak fortunes changed the day the mysterious Upjohn Institute recruited him. The role: “verifier of personal histories.” The job title: Rewinder. After accepting the offer, Denny discovers he’ll have to do his research in person…by traveling through time.
Using a device capable of opening a portal into any era from the past, Denny is sent back to serve as an eyewitness to significant moments in human history. But as he journeys across the centuries, he begins to suspect that his missions to “observe and report” have a much darker purpose. When a time jump drops Denny into the midst of a rebellion, he finds himself in over his head in a deadly game where even the smallest choices can have catastrophic consequences.
Armed only with his wits and his time-travel device, Denny’s adventures take readers on a pulse-pounding journey of page-turning twists. But will everything he’s got be enough?

I don't know what to say about  this  book that hasn't already been said but I was lucky enough to go straight from this fabulous book to the next in the series and if you like time travel or alternate history books you will fall in love with this series. I read them both in one day and then hated myself because I did not make them last longer.

WOOHOO! More to Come from Stormy Gale!

Got a note from this awesome author.
"Yay! So glad you enjoyed it! Carina Press just
contracted the second book, The Bewitching
Tale of Stormy Gale, a full length novel where
Bacon, Stormy and Dev travel back to the time
of the Salem witch trials. I'm hoping it will be
out by late spring next year. Thanks so much
for the lovely review, I truly appreciate it."

                                                              Christine

If you have not checked  out this awesome Steampunk/Time Travel novella, now's the time. The fabulous people at Carina Press have contracted for a full length second book! Woohoo! If you love steampunk and/or time travel you are in for a treat. I've decided to repost my review. As a newish Kindle reader, I still don't find myself getting lost in a story quite the way I do when it's print but this one had me flipping pages and reading from start to finish. This is my first wishlist book for the Spring of 2012.

    1

Title: The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale
    Author: Christine Bell
    Genre: Steampunk/Time Travel
    Rating: * * * * *
    Publishers Date: 4/25/11
    Kindle: 25,900 words
    ISBN: B004RQD40G
    FTC Disclosure: Net Galley

I'm a time pirate—born in 1810, now a 21st-century woman. I travel through time trying to right wrongs without disrupting the fragile balance between what is and what can never be.
That's why it's vital that I go to 1836 and find the man who conned my brother out of his Time Travel Mechanism as quickly as possible. If the technology falls into the wrong hands, it could change the world as we know it. The notorious Duke of Leister definitely qualifies as the wrong hands. An amateur scientist of the slightly mad variety, he's bound to figure out how to use the TTM sooner rather than later.
I knew this wouldn't be easy. But I wasn't counting on him being as sexy as hell. Or winding up chained to his bed…

Let me say right off the bat, the only disappointment I had in this book was the length. As I was reading it on my Kindle and it had been there for awhile, I didn’t realize it was a novella. This is one of the things I don’t like about a Kindle. When you have a book in your hand you know immediately, wow! it’s 500+ pages so it’s going to last awhile or gee it’s 100 so a very quick read. Not so obvious on a Kindle.
But anyway, CB had me with her first “Wizard of Oz” reference. I totally fell in love with the kick-ass Dorothy and the steampunk/time travel genre.  It actually reminded me a bit of the novella for the “Girl in the Steel Corset”.  Action packed, full of mystery and romance. And that says a lot for a mere 25,900 word story. Oh, I’d love to see this done full length. There was just so much more story untold. I wanted to know more about Gilly and his history. I wanted to know more about Devlin’s time in BedIam. I could have read this for hours but alas it ended just as I got invested in it. If some publisher doesn’t snap up this writer and get the rest of the story, I’m really gonna be pissed. I’m putting this author on my watch list as I expect to see more of her!
