BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Q&A QUESTIONS

"What is your favorite scene from "Grand Slam" and why?
It’s difficult to answer directly without giving away spoilers for those who haven’t yet read it, so I’ll keep it high level and say that it’s when Cash finally grows up. A lot happens over the course of the trilogy, and Cash had a lot of growing to do. In this book, he comes through in spectacular fashion, even though at the start he is in a very dark place. By the end, it’s a real “ahhhh” moment.

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book.
Cash Gallagher is a top tennis player who’s extremely dissatisfied with his life, even though he appears from the outside to have it all. When Tally McKenzie blows into his life in spectacular fashion, she tears apart everything he’s ever believed in. Even though she’s a journalist, and he hates the press, Tally somehow gets through. It takes him a while, but eventually he realizes she’s the missing piece that he’s been searching for. Shame he messes up regularly. Lucky for him, Tally is a hell of a girl with extensive patience who forgives him more times than he deserves because she knows that he’s salvageable. Lucky for her, she was right :-)

If you could live in any fantasy world, which one would it be?
Great question! I’d say within the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward. Those brothers would be fabulous protectors….and phew, are they hot!

What is your favorite hobby when you're not writing?
I love to read, but away from booky things, I love to go walking with my dogs, Cooper and Murphy, a couple of crazy Westies. It’s great to get out in the fresh air and go for a good stomp in the country. It’s also a great way to work out plot lines (at least for me!)

What do you want people to take away from reading this book / series?
Several things, I guess. Firstly, I want them to have been entertained. Reading is, above all, about being taken away from your “real” life and transported to a fantasy world. I’d like them to see that forgiveness is a wonderful thing, and if you truly want something, you’ll persevere to the bitter end. Finally, I hope they feel satisfied with the conclusion to Cash and Tally’s story.

Excerpt #1

“Hello, Natalia.”
The sharp pain in her chest couldn’t have been any worse if someone had cracked open her ribcage, reached inside, and torn out her heart.
“Leave me alone, Cash,” she croaked to the man she’d adored since she was fifteen.
“I can’t do that.”
She tightened her grip on the door handle, certain if she let go she’d crumple to the floor. “Don’t you think I’ve been hurt enough?” she whispered.
Cash bowed his head, and his shoulders drooped. “I don’t want to cause you any more pain.”
“Then go away.” She turned her back on him and opened the door.
“Please, Natalia. Can we go inside and talk?”
She rested her forehead against the doorframe. “No,” she said in a wavering voice. Tears pricked behind her eyes. She dug her fingernails into her palm as she swallowed past an uncomfortable lump in her throat.
“I can explain,” he said, his hand lightly touching her arm.
She spun out of his reach but kept her back to him. “I said no.” Her chin trembled, and she clenched her jaw to stop the involuntary movement. “I’m not interested in anything you have to say.”
“I know I’ve fucked up. Please, let me inside. I’ll tell you everything. About Gracie, about my mother and father. Everything. It’s what I should have done already.”
“Cash, please.” She faced him then, her voice cracking as the tears she’d desperately tried to hold back spilled down her cheeks. “Why are you doing this?”
“Oh, baby,” he said, reaching for her again.
She staggered backwards and stumbled over the step. Her ankle twisted as she tried to save herself. Cash shot out an arm and pulled her against his chest. This time, she didn’t have the energy to resist. She slumped against him as he dug around in his pocket.
He produced a crumpled tissue and wiped away her tears. “You’re freezing. Let’s go inside and get you warmed up.”
Before she could protest, he ushered her through the door and into the tiny hallway. He walked straight ahead into the kitchen like he owned the damned place and then flicked the kettle on.
“Go and get a shower. I’ll have the tea made by the time you get out.”
She wanted to tell him no, that she could make her own bloody tea, but the words wouldn’t come. She trudged into the bathroom and locked the door. She wouldn’t put it past Cash to follow her, and she craved control even as she sensed it slipping out of reach.
She’d thought Brighton would be a refuge, a place to heal, but he’d found her so easily. Once she’d showered and dressed in clean clothes, she would be able to deal with Cash. She would listen to what he had to say and then politely ask him to leave.
And then she was going home to London.

Tracie Delaney is the author of the Winning Ace trilogy. She loves nothing more than immersing herself in a good romance, although she sometimes, rather cheekily, makes her characters wait for their HEA.
When she isn’t writing or sitting around with her head stuck in a book, she can often be found watching The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or any tennis match involving Roger Federer. Her greatest fear is running out of coffee.
Tracie studied accountancy, gaining her qualification in 2001. Her maths teacher would no doubt be stunned by this revelation considering Tracie could barely add two plus two at high school.
Tracie lives in the North West of England with her amazingly supportive husband. They both share a love of dogs, travel and wine.

Lanie and her gorgeous brown eyes are about to prove him so, so wrong. With one kiss, the heat is intense. After one night, it's pure combustion. Was there anything you wanted to add or had to eliminate from the story? What was it and why? I had to eliminate some scenes with Tyler and Lanie together but we cut them because they didn’t advance the story. I love seeing couples as couples. That’s why I love bringing couples from previous books so you can see them together. Kevin and Holly from Only You make multiple appearances in Until You.

If you found a genie, what would be your three wishes?
1)   That my children remain healthy and happy.
2)   A house on the beach. I’m still not sure what beach.

She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese, which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty (in her own mind) Facebook comments and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn't lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe

2017 Movie you’re most looking forward to?
 Beauty and the Beast
(me too!)

Was there anything you wanted to add or had to eliminate from the story? What was it and why?
I originally had a chapter in IF THE DUKE DEMANDS in which Miranda falls into a duck pond in Hyde Park and Sebastian rescues her…only to end up soaked in two feet of water with a reed sticking off his head! They antagonize each other for the rest of the scene, all the way back to the townhouse, where he accidentally glimpses her undressing. It was removed in the rewrites because it didn’t fit the rising action and was too much physical attraction and not enough emotional attraction. But I love the rapid back and forth in that chapter, how they know exactly how to get under each other’s skin, and the simmering sexual tension underlying all of it.

What is the heartbeat of your new novel?
That love sneaks up on us when—and with whom—we least expect it. Miranda has always been in love with Robert Carlisle and somewhat terrified of his imposing older brother Sebastian, Duke of Trent. But when she gets to know the man beneath the title, she realizes that she’s been in love with the wrong Carlisle brother all along. But in order to save her heart, she has to make him realize that he’s more than a duke, that he’s simply a man worthy of her love.

If you found a genie, what would be your three wishes?
To find my true love, to be able to move to England and have a cute little flat in Mayfair, and to never run out of ideas for new novels.

What do you hope readers will take away from reading this book?
I only hope they have fun. I fell in love with Sebastian while writing this book, and Miranda is a part of every woman who wants to live life to the fullest and find her true love in her best friend. I hope readers enjoy the humor and the sense of energy, the special family relationships that the Carlisles all share, and the slow unfolding of love as the two move from bewilderment, to wonderment, and finally to acceptance of love. (And that they laugh over my shamelessly dirty joke about Mozart’s opera and a very uncomfortable conversation Sebastian has with his mother about how he and his siblings arrived in the world.)

Tell us seven things we may not know about your writing life...

  1. I keep a notebook and pen beside my bed in case I wake up in the middle of the night with a good idea. (I’ll never remember it when I fall back asleep.)
  2. I’ve worn out one computer per year for the last three years…the keys keep falling off, starting with the backspace key.
  3. My favorite part of writing is revising (I am such a nerd!)
  4. Whenever I think of an idea for a new book, I start by envisioning the house where the story is set, then create the characters and plot from there. I’m a would-be architect and house historian, deeply affected by a sense of place.
  5. I cannot write without a cup of coffee at my fingertips and jazz music in the background.
  6. I write in my sunroom, from where I can watch the squirrels shamelessly raiding the bird feeder and yell at the neighbor’s cat when it sneaks into my rose garden.
  7. When I’m in the middle of a project, I go for walks around the neighborhood and talk to myself to work out plot problems. (As an added bonus, it keeps the neighbors away.)

Blog Tour/Interview & Giveaway For OF THE TREES By E.M. Fitch

Title: OF THE TREES
Author: E.M. Fitch
Pub. Date: Feb 28, 2017
Publisher: Month9Books
Format: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 345

Cassie and Laney fancy themselves amateur ghost hunters. When a carnival comes to town, Cassie embraces the chance to try something new.
Carnival workers watch the girls with a collective gaze that ignites in Laney a dark and dangerous fascination, leaving Cassie unnerved.
It's not just their age or the unsettling way they stare. There is something in the shifting of their skin and the way their features seem to change in the shadows.
Cassie can's shake this sickening feeling that there's more to the carnival than meets the eye.
When townspeople suddenly start dying and bloody warnings appear around town, Cassie is lured into a nightmare where trees whisper and strange, shape-shifting men haunt the backwoods she once hunted for ghosts with her best friend.
Then Laney goes missing, and only Cassie can get her back. But the creatures of the trees aren't simply going to hand Laney over to Cassie without getting something in return.

E.M. Fitch is an author who loves scary stories, chocolate, and tall trees. When not dreaming up new ways to torture characters, she is usually corralling her four children or thinking of ways to tire them out so she can get an hour of peace at night. She lives in Connecticut, surrounded by chaos, which she manages (somewhat successfully) with her husband, Marc.

Lisa's Loves (Books of Course) Q&A

QUICK FIRE INTERVIEW:
Twitter or Facebook?
                Facebook.
Favorite Superhero?
                Superman.
Favorite TV show?
The Walking Dead. Love me some zombies.
Sweet or Salty?
Both together! Raisinets in popcorn is the ultimate combination. Trust me.
Coke or Pepsi?
                Coke.
Any Phobias?
Not really, I super hate bugs and spiders though.
Song you can’t get enough of right now?
                Lost Boy by Ruth B.
Who is your ultimate Book Boyfriend?
Jamie Fraser. Oh, I’m sorry, James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser.
What are you reading right now or what’s on your TBR?
I’m currently reading Quantum Enigma: Physics Encounters Consciousness by Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner. (Yes, I realize how dry that sounds; but it’s fascinating! One of my short stories coming out in 2017 was inspired by the Schrödinger's cat thought experiment.)
2017 Movie you’re most looking forward to?
                A Monster Calls

Was there anything you wanted to add or had to eliminate from the story? What was it and why?
There really weren’t any cuts that I found problematic. The major elements of the story were left untouched. Most of the edits to Of The Trees were grammatical and some developmental, but they all made the story better and more focused. Now, that being said, the sequel has some juicy bits and horror elements that made me wonder if perhaps I was pushing the envelope a bit. I let my characters and the storyline take over, though, and pushed through. I hope all those bits will all stay intact, but I guess time will tell.

What is the heartbeat of your new novel?
This novel centers around friendship, trust, and fear. There’s a feeling of helplessness, and an uncertainty of how to overcome it. But, beyond the horror, fairy lore, and whispering trees, Of The Trees is a story of two friends who love each other, and lose each other.

If you found a genie, what would be your three wishes?
Hmmm… Okay, first, money. I’ll admit it, I’m that person. And while money doesn’t buy happiness, it’s sure easier to put a meal on the table and pay off a mortgage if you have some. So, I’d want a magical little safe (not a big one! See! I’m not greedy!) that is stacked with cash whenever I open it. Second wish: a recipe for calorie-free chocolate chip cookies. Third wish: the ability to fly! I’ve always wanted to be able to do that.

What do you hope readers will take away from reading this book?
I want readers to see that bravery is a choice; that it looks different for different people, but that it’s always worth choosing.

Tell us Seven things we may not know about your writing life...

1)      I have found some of my best friends online in the writing community, it has been one of the most welcoming and encouraging experiences of my life.
2)      I have been rejected more times than I am willing to count, and I keep them all in a separate folder to track where I’ve submitted, and where I’m submitting next.
3)      I’ve been writing seriously since 2013, with plenty of “I’m just doing this for fun, I swear!” writing before that.
4)      Of The Trees is my fourth published novel – before this was a YA zombie trilogy entitled The Break Free Series. Overall, I’ve currently written eight complete novels (some which will never see the light of day), a smattering of novellas, and a dozen or so short stories.
5)      Typing ‘The End’ on a novel or series is one of the most thrilling, giggle-inducing, adrenaline-pumping moments for me, I get giddy just thinking about it.
6)      I have no routine, music, or formula that gets me writing – when it’s time to write, I just sit down and do it.
7)      I do an absolute ton of research regarding all sorts of topics for every book or short story I write, this includes movies and television shows that inspire ideas, to non-fiction works, actual research papers and articles, and internet searches that could probably land me in some trouble with the NSA.

Was there any particular research that you did for the new book?

Yes, tons! I started with Irish fairy-tales and folklore, which led me to W.B. Yeats and a collection of his stories and poems. One in particular stuck out to me, The Stolen Child, and that helped to influence and shape Of The Trees. And while old tales of the Fae are the dark undercurrents that run throughout this novel, the story begins with a ghost story. So there was a lot of research put into one of the old, local legends that skulks around a cemetery quite close to me. It was a ghost story I remembered from my own time in high school, and I went searching through archives for the details. I also looked into everything from tree varieties, to high school floor-plans, to… oh! This was a big one: The Appalachian Trail. So much research went into the conditions on the trail, what you’d have to pack for a thru-hike, how long something like that would take, what the particular sections of the trail looked like. On and on! I just adore researching, which comes in handy because every novel I write requires often very bizarre research.
