BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Release Day Blitz Savage Prophet by James A. Hunter

Savage Prophet
The Yancy Lazarus Series#4
James A. Hunter
Genre: Adult Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Shadow Alley Press Inc
Date of Publication: Oct 7, 2016
ASIN: B01LW3ZVGH
Number of pages: 415
Cover Artist: Lou Harper

Legions of murderous undead, Haitian voodoo, and a five-thousand-year old serpent god.
Yeah, ’cause that’s exactly what Yancy Lazarus needs in his life: more complications. As if being the Hand of Fate and the newly appointed guardian over one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse wasn’t headache enough.
All Yancy wants is an easy life on the open road—chock-full of ribs, beer, cigarettes, and smoky bars blaring with gritty blues music—but that just isn’t in the cards. Nope, not anymore. He’s been charged to save the world and now that he’s got a no-shit demon riding shotgun in his head, he’s sorta committed to the cause.
If Yancy can’t sort through this colossal heap of bullshit, he’s coffin bound. But, he’s not dead yet. In fact, he even has a lead.
Turns out one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse—the pale Rider, Death—is slumming around in one of Yancy’s old haunts. In order to corner this new threat, though, Yancy’s gonna have to face some deadly supernatural nightmares from his distant past. And, to make matters worse, he’s not the only one trailing the Pale Rider. A powerful new mage with some serious magical chops, is also aiming to find the Fourth Seal and he’ll do whatever it takes to win. Even if it means hurting those closest to Yancy … Like F.B.I. Agent Nicole Ferraro.

 Excerpt
“Will anyone stand for this man? Stand for Yancy
Lazarus?” The voice rang out, echoing off the bleak stone walls, rolling over
me like a frigid ocean wave crashing on a rocky shoreline. “Will anyone dare to
call him friend”—a taut pause—“or brother?” A creeping dread filled my belly,
twisting my guts into serpentine knots. Gooseflesh broke out along my arms,
neck, and back, while slick beads of perspiration dotted my forehead.
If no one stood for me, vouched for me, I was dead. And
I’m not being hyperbolic or metaphorical here.
Someone—probably ol’ Iron Stan, the leader of the Fist
of the Staff and my former boss—would literally slip a Vis-imbued garrote
around my neck and strangle me until I was a lifeless meat sock. Choke the air
from my lungs while crushing my windpipe, leaving me to die a very undignified death:
Kneeling on the concrete floor before a bunch of bathrobe wearing geezers. Back
bent with some douchehole digging an elbow in between my shoulder blades. Hands
cuffed behind my back and a brown leather sack covering my bowed head.
Well, someone would try …
These days, I had some extra kick under the hood in the
form of an honest to goodness End Times Seal—straight outta the book of
Revelation—come to me by way of an Elder Bigfoot, Chief Chankoowashtay, the
leader of the People of the Forest and the last great ruler of the Chiye-tanka.
Yep, riding right next to my ticker was the Seal of War.
A metaphysical prison containing the essence of the second horseman of the
Apocalypse: Azazel the Purros, Grigori
of Old, Scourge of Mankind, Maker of War, and Lord of Dark Magicks. A creature
with a truly intimidating string of titles, though, admittedly, I’d hate to be
him when tax season rolls around and you have to list your full name in
quintuplet.
True, I couldn’t take on the entire Guild even with that
evil dickhead, Azazel, in my corner, but I’d sure as shit go down hookin’ and
jabbin’, and I’d take at least a few of these sons of bitches with me if it
came to it.
“He abandoned this Guild,” the voice said, as insistent
and unyielding as old stones. I swiveled my head toward the speaker, and though
I couldn’t see her—what with a friggin’ sack over my face—I could picture her
in my mind. A striking woman with smooth skin, high cheeks, and bright green
eyes, searching and weighing. Her hair, a mass of silver, hanging all the way
down her back. Arch-Mage Borgstorm, head of the Guild of the Staff. As savvy as
magi came, but cold, calculating, and political to her teeth.
“Throughout the course of this trial,” she continued,
“the prosecutor has shown Mage Lazarus to be a traitor. A danger. A deserter.”
Her words sparked a fire in my chest, my blood rising to a low simmer as I
clenched my teeth and balled my hands into fists.
Traitor.
I’d given more for the damn Guild than anyone had a
right to ask, and they’d been the ones to turn their backs on me and mine, not
the other way around. But, despite the fact that I had the sudden urge to
conjure a gout of molten rock and melt the chamber to blackened slag, I held my
tongue.

Yasmin Shiraz  on the world she built for her series.

The Retaliation series which now includes Loyal, Retaliation and Accused consists of a world where young people often feel they are at a disadvantage and have to fight the system. The system includes school principals, police officers, the court system, criminal enterprises and even higher education in modern day America.

The main characters in Loyal, Tashera and Khalil, live in a low-income area in Washington, DC. True to life, I created this world where these characters would have to deal with the challenges of gang initiations, violence, and poverty. As a motivational speaker and workshop facilitator in the inner cities of America, I saw so many young people who continued to be hopeful despite their circumstances and quite frankly, despite the odds. The world of the Retaliation series is about heart and fighting and doing what's right despite not having ample economic resources. This series thrusts the characters into making adult decisions without always having guidance or support.

The first two books in the series, Loyal and Retaliation, take place in an urban setting focusing on the neighborhood and public high school, but the third book, Accused, has two of the main characters going off to a Division I University. Even though the physical setting changed in Accused, the characters still go up against the system and have to fight for themselves in the series. We often hear about the sad statistics of people who reside in low income areas, but what about the people who reside there but decide to be different? What about the people who decide they are not going to be a statistic? They are not going to become teen parents. They are not going to die at the hands of gun violence. They are not going to become drug users or drug dealers.

The world of Retaliation is a place where young people who want to be different rally against those who have accepted the status quo.  Non-violent people have to find their way against those prone to violence.  Those opposed to gangs have to fight against those who are actively recruiting. This series is home to young people who believe that their current circumstance doesn't prevent their future trajectory.

Life in the Danger Zone
by Patricia B Tighe
Publication Date: Nov 1, 2016
Publisher: Swoon Romance

Sixteen-year- old Rose Mulligan’s plan for the summer cruise with her grandparents is simple—read mysteries in the sunshine and see historical sites. It doesn’t include joining a young people’s tour group or crushing on a boy whose flirting runs hot and cold. And it definitely doesn’t include being accused of theft.
Sam Briggs also has a plan for the trip—hang out with his uncle and cousins, and avoid thinking about his stupid parents. But when family members pair-up with strangers, Sam is left wanting to hit something. The only bright spot is shy, constantly blushing Rose, a girl he really needs to avoid. She’s too nice for a meaningless hookup. Then why can’t he stop thinking about her?
Determined to clear her name, Rose decides to find out who the real thief is. It quickly becomes clear that everyone has secrets. Dangerous secrets. But by the time Sam starts helping with the investigation, Rose is wishing she could forget the whole thing and just focus on his intense gaze and lopsided smile. There are only a few days left on the trip after all, and they’ll never see each other again once it’s over. Right?
But it’s too late. Danger has a way of finding you, whether it’s disguised as a cunning thief or a swoony boy.
The mother of two grown sons, Patricia B. Tighe lives in West Texas with her husband and dog. She eats way too much pizza, drinks way too much coffee, and watches way too much NFL football. On the bright side, she also reads and writes teen fiction. She promises to include as much romance, angst, and adventure as possible in her books.

EXCERPT

Heat from his body washed over her, but she lifted her head to meet his gaze. “We don’t have a relationship.”
He smiled then, and the curve of his lips held more determination than amusement. “I’m not letting you run, and I’m certainly not letting you hide, baby. Although neither of us has been in this for the long haul, I’m staying in Wyoming for the moment. The first thing that’s going to happen is I’m going to figure out who dared put a hand on you and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
For the first time, she saw a side of him that gave her true pause. In the long haul, he’d be unbearably possessive. Why did that give her an intriguing sense of safety? “Knock it off,” she snapped in his face. “Get out of my business.”
That quickly, she found her back against the door and her front pinned by hard male. His hands planted on either side of her neck, his thumbs at her jaw, forcing her to look at him. “Something you need to understand and pretty damn quick is that your business is my business right now.” His thumb swept up and over the offensive bruise on her face.
“Step back.” Her voice trembled.
He ignored the very calm order. “No. You don’t want to tell me who did this? Fine. I’ll find out on my own, and I’ll have the name by the time I pick you up for supper. What you don’t want to do is deal with him or his case until I have that name. Kicking him in the balls might’ve just pissed him off more, and now you’ve let a bully stew on it for a while, which might be dangerous for you. Got it?”
“You have no right to interfere,” she whispered.
“Baby, I’ve been fuckin’ you for months. That gives me every right.” Anger glowed dark in his eyes.
“We’re done. Get out.”
His eyes softened. “You shouldn’t make statements you can’t back up.”
She shoved against his ripped abs.
He didn’t move a millimeter.
And then he did.
His head dipped, and his mouth found her neck and wandered up to her ear. His teeth scraped, and then his tongue licked the slight wound.
Of its own volition, her body did a full tremble.
He leaned back. “That.”
Her mind fuzzed.
His mouth slammed down on hers. She knew his kiss—often dreamed about it. Not soft and sweet . . . not even lustful. It was dangerous. From day one, she’d tasted danger on his tongue, and it burned her hotter than she’d ever been.
Never had she dated a bad boy, but after living her desired routine-driven life for years, she’d craved adventure, and he filled that need. He drew out a wildness she hadn’t realized she possessed.
He held her flush against the door, kissing her hard, sending a craving along her nerves that almost hurt. His tongue went to work, his left hand keeping her jaw open for him. His right hand found her hip and dragged her against the obvious bulge in his jeans. By the time he released her, she’d stopped thinking completely.
“What time are you finished today?” he asked, his breath heating her face.
“Fi-five,” she stuttered.
He leaned back and gently put her to the side. “Stay in the office until I come for you at five, Zara.” He ran his thumb across her bottom lip. “Cross me on this, baby, and I ain’t gonna be gentle.” He had already shut the door behind himself before she could take a whole breath.
She blinked several times, her fingers going to her still-tingling mouth. What had just happened?

DEADLY SILENCE BLITZ Q&A – Rebecca Zanetti

What was the most challenging part of writing Deadly Silence?

Even though Deadly Silence is the first book in a spinoff series from the Sin Brother series, it needed to stand on its own for accounts as well as new readers.  So the challenge was creating a whole new world while still incorporating the Sin Brother world and some of the characters without overwhelming a brand new reader with what came before.  It took several drafts and tweaking, but I think we accomplished it in a way that will appeal to fans of the earlier series as well as new fans.

Can you tell us more about The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency?  How as it started?

The three heroes in the Blood Brother series were thrown together in a horrible boy’s home as kids, and they were lost until they found each other.  They each have a piece of their own past they want to track down, yet they’re fine with their new created family.  They were lost, and now they aren’t, so they create the detective agency to find the lost for other people while still investigating their pasts.

What’s one thing that you enjoy most about writing?

There are so many good things about this job; it’s hard to pick just one.  I like wearing yoga pants to work, I like creating worlds, and I like meeting with fans who are struck by the characters.  Editorially, I just love the first chapter of a book when anything can happen and there are no limits.

Jaws or Jurassic Park?

Fun question!  Well, I’d go with Jaws for the dialogue and overall story, and Jurassic Park (the new one) because of Chris Pratt without his shirt on.

What are your writing habits?

My habits include comfy socks, coffee or tea, and music playing all the time.  Each book has its own playlist, and I’m fine sharing those, but usually people are confused.  Many times the songs don’t have much to do with the book itself.  I like the tone or rhythm or just the song and will listen as I write.  I have found that if a book seems slow and I play a fast song, the pace instantly picks up as I write.

You are in a bookstore.  Where do you head first?
I head right to the new releases and see what’s out and what I need to read right away.  Then I stroll through all the shelves looking for something new to catch my eye.  I love bookstores.
Is there a genre you haven’t written that you would like to try?

I imagine this question is like tossing a cat into a car wash.  Authors love to write, and I think there’s no limit to that.  I’d love to write a thriller, a legal thriller, a middle grade series, a sci phi book…

Did you have to do a lot of research?

I always do some research.  For Deadly Silence, I looked into the Dark Web, current communication possibilities, and genetic manipulation.  It’s all so fascinating, really!

How do you keep your writing different from all the others that write in this particular genre?

I’m not sure how to answer this except to say that everyone has a different voice.  We’re automatically different from each other.  I will say that I do take a moment and think…okay.  If this usually happens, let’s go a different direction completely.  That’s a lot of fun, actually.

Describe Deadly Silence in 5 words:

Dangerous, Sexy, Wounded, Funny, and Dark.

Rebecca Zanetti is the author of over twenty-five romantic suspense, dark paranormal, and contemporary romances, and her books have appeared multiple times on the New York Times, USA Today, and Amazon bestseller lists. She has received a Publisher's Weekly Starred Review for Wicked Edge, Romantic Times Reviewer Choice Nominations for Forgotten Sins and Sweet Revenge, and RT Top Picks for several of her novels.  She lives in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with her own alpha hero, two kids, a couple of dogs, a crazy cat...and a huge extended family.  She believes strongly in luck, karma, and working her butt off...and she thinks one of the best things about being an author, unlike the lawyer she used to be, is that she can let the crazy out.

Excerpt:

Wiping the crumbs off his jeans, Finn reached into his

backpack and threw an apple at me, which I caught with a deft hand.

            “Nice catch,” he said, grinning.

I flung the apple up into the air and caught it in my other hand. “I played third
base. Little League.”

            “You mean baseball?”

            I nodded.

            “Never seen a game myself.”

            I
gaped at Finn. “You mean you live in Chicago, and

you’ve never been to a Cubs
game?”

            He
shrugged. “Not interested.” Finn’s eyes lit up, and

he shoved me playfully with
his shoulder. “Now hurling

That’s a
good game.”

            “Well, they’re totally
different. That’s not even a fair comparison,” I said with a sniff.

            “Fair enough,” Finn said,
wistful. “Really, nothing can compare
with hurling.”

            I
laughed. “Moiré tried to explain the rules to me once,

but she lost me after
hurley stick.”

            “Oh,
it’s simple, really.” Finn jumped down and rummaged around the rubble until he

found a large branch. He swung it, the stick cutting through the air, slowly at
first, but then with more force. Finn’s chest muscles rippled between the flaps
of his leather jacket, and my blood pulsed in my ears at
 the sight of him,
dancing from foot to foot as he practiced his swing.

            “Now
the point of hurling,” Finn began, “is to use this stick,

the hurley stick.” He
raised the old branch in the air.

“To get a little ball called a sliotar either over or under your

opponent’s goalpost.” Finn picked up a handful of small rocks and, using his
“hurley,” sent a pebble whizzing over the stone wall,

 inches from my head.

            “Hey, watch it!”
Finn smiled up at me. “You with me so far?”

            I nodded.    “Now,”
Finn said. “If the ball flies under the goalpost into the net, it’s worth three

points.” Finn sent another pebble skittering against the wall,
right next to my
boot. “But you have to get it past the keeper, and that can be a challenge.”
His eyes glittered at me as he swung his stick again.
He threw a rock up in the
air and with a loud thwack sent it
zooming over the wall. I held out my hand and caught the stone,
 the look on
Finn’s face making up for the sting of impact.

            “And
he’s out!” I cried, jumping off the wall and doing a mock victory dance. “Cubs

win!  Cubs win! Wooooooooooooo!”

            Finn
stalked over to me and grabbed my fist. “Will you settle down!” he said,

attempting to pry the pebble from my grip. “I’m trying to teach you a
three-thousand-year-old art form and you’re nattering on
about the fecking
Cubs.”

I giggled, snatching his hurley stick from his hands.

            “Technical
foul!” Finn barked behind me, but I sprinted away, swinging the hurley over my

head as I climbed the wall.

            “Get
back here, you brat!” Finn bolted after me so quickly,

 he lost his footing on

the stone wall and tumbled to the ground.
I laughed as he came to his feet, his hair loose, chasing me.

“It’s the bottom of the ninth, bases are
loaded!”

            Finn
made a snatch for the stick, but I feigned to the right.

“Tanner’s up to bat.” I climbed a set of old stairs to

nowhere and tossed up
the stone. I popped out my hips and,

following through on the turn, sent the
stone flying over the hill and down the cliffs below.
I jumped down, swinging
my baseball/hurley bat. “Homerun by Tanner!
And the Cubs win the pennant!”

            Finn
smacked into me, and I collapsed to the ground, his wide body over mine as he

grasped for the stick.

            “Dammit,
O’Connell!” I gasped beneath Finn, his whole weight crushing my chest.  “Now I know

for a fact hurling is not a contact
sport!” I laughed as I squirmed to get away, holding out the
stick just beyond
his reach.

            “Neither
is baseball!”

            With a devilish grin, Finn
tickled my armpit, and I curled up in a fit of giggles.
He made a grab for my
wrist, pinning me to the ground, and his gray eyes danced
as he looked down at
me. My laughter faded, and running my other hand through
his hair, I pulled his
face to mine. He kissed me,

a low moan rumbling deep in his throat.

            Finn
nipped my bottom lip with his teeth, and

my back arched as our hips melded

together, my better judgment forgotten. He slid
his arm beneath my shoulders
and pulled me close against him, kissing me long and
hard, and I gasped,
gulping for air as he lowered his mouth to my neck.
