BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Paperback: 357 pages

She may resist his bite, but she can't resist his charms…
Werewolf princess Blu Masterson won't allow her seductive vampire husband to consummate their marriage with his bite, marking her forever. Alone in a secluded estate with her sworn enemy, Blu curses the marriage arranged to bring their rival nations together, especially since Creed Saint-Pierre calls out to her most feral desires.

When Blu uncovers her pack's secret plot to destroy the vampire nation—and Creed—she is forced to confront her growing feelings for her sexy undead husband. Will she choose the only life she's ever known or accept his vampire bite?

Well, what can I say other than I loved it. This is the type of book that had me embracing the genre. As much as I read UF, it doesn't hold a candle to a good Paranormal Romance. Best of all, we get vampire and werewolves in one book--a double treat. It has all the fixings of a great romance, a contracted marriage where they both hate the sight of the other. But soon they realize that there's more to the other guy than those preconceived ideas and prejudices they were brought up with. And hey, when one of those is over 900 years old, you got some deep rooted prejudices.

Through the Triangle by C P Stewart

Title: Through The Triangle
Author: C P Stewart

Genre: Sci-Fi
Rating: * * * *
Review Date: 6/12/2010
Paperback: 390  pages
Publisher: Outskirts Press (August 26, 2009)
ISBN: 1432740369
FTC Disclosure: I was sent a copy by the author for my review.

Mysterious places exist in this world, where the unexplained is more common than one would expect. There are areas where people, watercraft, and airplanes have vanished, as if they never existed. Three of these areas lie in and around Alaska, Japan, and Florida. The latter of these three is widely known as the Bermuda Triangle, or Devil's Triangle, in which ships, planes, and more than a thousand people on them have disappeared without a trace. These people have become statistics, but were actual living breathing people with families, friends, and acquaintances. Reflect for a moment on what these people experienced as they transitioned from being a normal person to a memory in the blink of an eye. Did they cease to exist? Theories abound on the reason for the disappearances, ranging from the natural -- weather and methane gas, to the more radical UFO abductions. About the Author: C. P. Stewart taught chemistry and physics in high school and occasionally at the university level. He is a lifelong resident of western Pennsylvania and has been captivated by these areas of mysterious disappearances, in particular the Bermuda Triangle. He is not alone, because fascination with the Bermuda Triangle has spawned legends, books, movies, songs, websites, plays, television specials, a mini-series, and even a magic trick by David Copperfield. Before writing Through the Triangle, which allows the reader to follow five individuals as they experience the Triangle’s capriciousness and consequences, he performed abundant research by studying writings of noted physicists on the topics of String (Membrane) Theory and the latest discoveries dealing with Spacetime. He also was particularly interested in written accounts of individuals who experienced close encounters within the Bermuda Triangle and survived. In one such confrontation, a pilot claims to have moved thirty minutes forward in time while in an encompassing fog, which he referred to as an electronic fog, or Timestorm.

While this book wasn't great, it was throughly enjoyable. I had no trouble reading it very quickly. The Bermuda Triangle has always been an area that was mysterious and fascinating to me and Stewart made it even more so. Stewart's explanation as to the cause of the rip in time was definitely way over my head and caused my eyes to glaze over momentarily  but only because Physics was way over my head too. But the reasons for the massive changes to the world was edge of your seat exciting. The suspense and action was mixed with a bit of romance that made the book less of a "guy" book than I had expected it to be (thank goodness). I wish that the characters had been a bit more visual as I had a hard time picturing them in my mind. As a lover of time travel, this book really was fascinating. I loved the futuristic house and the transportation system. That part of the book could have gone on and on as far as I was concerned. If I'm ever transported 200 years in the future, I want a house just like it.

Shift by Rachel Vincent

Author: Rachel Vincent
Genre: Paranormal U/F Romance
Rating: * * * * *

Paperback: 400 pages

Being the first female werecat enforcer isn't easy. Scars accumulate, but I'm stronger in so many ways.

As for my personal life? It's complicated. Choices worth making always are. Ever since my brother's death and my father's impeachment, it's all I can do to prevent more blood from spilling. Now our Pride is under attack by a flight of vicious thunderbirds. And making peace with our new enemies may be the only way to get the best of our old foe.

With the body count rising and treachery everywhere, my instincts tell me to look before I leap. But sometimes a leap of faith is the only real option..

I love series and generally will wait and read them in a batch of 3 or 4 books at a time as I hate to wait on the next book. This series is one of my exceptions. I fell in love with the werecat world that Vincent built and every character in it, good and bad guys. I am going to be so sad when October gets here because it will bring this world to an end with Alpha. I can’t say that I liked Faythe when this series started. She was an over indulged bratty princess. But she tends to grow on you or more importantly, grows up. I’m not real fond of books told in the first person but here again this series is an exception. Truly, this series is exceptional in so many ways. While there is romance in the stories, these books have been quite brutal in many ways and will take you from laugher to tears in a matter of pages.  If you read no other series this year, you owe it to yourself to indulge in this one. This is a series that MUST be read in order. I can’t imagine how lost you would feel to read these out of order. Each book builds on the previous one’s storyline. I love Vincent’s addition of the thunderbirds. I’m sure they will have top billing in the last book.
Another thing that Vincent has done that I as a reader appreciate is that she has kept the books as mass market paperbacks. Often when a series becomes a hit, the author will switch to the trade size or even hardbacks with the cost almost doubling. Thank you, Rachel.

Jessamine Luxson lives with her father, Thomas, an apothecary, in an isolated cottage near Alnwick Castle. Thomas’s pride and obsession is his locked garden full of dangerous plants, which Jessamine is forbidden to enter.
When a traveler brings an orphan to their cottage, he claims the boy has special gifts that Thomas might value. Jessamine is drawn to the strange but intriguing boy, called Weed. Soon their friendship deepens into love. Finally, Weed shares his secret: He can communicate with plants. For him they have distinct personalities—and some are even murderous. From the locked garden the poisonous plants call to Weed, luring him with promises of deadly power.
When Jessamine falls inexplicably ill, only Weed’s relationship with the Poisons can save her. But Thomas is determined to exploit Weed’s abilities, even if it risks Jessamine’s life—or drives Weed to the brink of madness.…

A very dark story that reminded me a bit of an Edgar Allan Poe tale. There's romance, mystery, magic, and betrayal. I'm just not sure that YA's will enjoy it. It starts out light and a bit sad as Jessamine tells of growing up without a mother and with a father that barely acknowledged her. After Weed comes into her life, an innocent romance develops and her life turns much more upbeat. Then it takes on a more sinister mood when Jessamine takes ill. Although Weed was slow to understand her illness, I had no doubt of the culprit. Can't say that I liked the ending, but if indeed it is a trilogy, maybe I can see why the author chose to end it as she did. Not sure if I'll read the next book if there is one. I'll have to let it germinate a bit to see if takes root or not.
