AMAZON- Love/Hate Relationship

I have a Love/Hate relationship with Amazon. They are evil, eeeevil I say.

While visiting BittenByBooks today, I read their review of  Alyson Noel's newest release "Shimmer".

Alyson Noël, author of the Immortals series, continues her new series about Ever’s younger sister, Riley.
"Having solved the matter of the Radiant Boy, Riley, Buttercup, and Bodhi are enjoying a well-deserved vacation. When Riley comes across a vicious black dog, against Bodhi’s advice, she decides to cross him over. While following the dog, she runs into a young ghost named Rebecca. Despite Rebecca’s sweet appearance, Riley soon learns she’s not at all what she seems. As the daughter of a former plantation owner, she is furious about being murdered during a slave revolt in 1733. Mired in her own anger, Rebecca is lashing out by keeping the ghosts who died along with her trapped in their worst memories. Can Riley help Rebecca forgive and forget without losing herself to her own nightmarish memories?"

While adding this series to my wishlist, I realize I still need a book or two in her Immortals series so I pop over to Amazon just to check on the price and then I get sucked down the rabbit hole.
I stop to check on one book, 1 book, uno! And what do I find? They have it for $2.36. I mean how could I pass it up? And then, of course, I have to get at least $25 worth of books as I'm not paying for shipping and I do have several gift cards out there waiting, enticing me to stop and shop. Though, I need another book like a hole in my head. I have more than I can possibly read in a lifetime. And of course I manage to find four or five other books that I need (really I do) that are buy 4 for 3, so of course these go on my 4 for 3 wishlist which I'll just quickly look at. Okay so what if I do have 8 on here! I do have those gift cards that need to be used don't I? What did I say about getting sucked down the rabbit hole? *****, now look what I did? Save me! I admit it--I'm a bookaholic!
Anyway, just wanted to share what I found on the bargain aisle. Hey, BittenByBooks, you are on my ****list too, cause you started me down that hole.

  1. Ok, darn it, you made me laugh. Been there - done that. Thanks for pointing out a problem that bookaholics share. Do you think we could start a bookaholics annonymous? ;)

  2. Good idea. Do you think any of us would show up?

  3. Oh, you are so talking about me! :-D Browsing Amazon is very very dangerous for me too: I stumble upon one great book, which then recommends other great books,a nd it snowballs from there until I have 4-5 books in my cart before I enev realize I put them there :-)

  4. I totally agree! It is too easy to spend a ton of money on Amazon.

  5. Why pay for shipping when you can get a few more books? And I always need more books (even though I don't have ROOM for more books and my husband says he'll kick me out if I bring another book home)...I'm right there with you!

  6. Shimmer looks like such an awesome book. It is hard because to have free shipping you have to spend so much!!!

  7. Totally understand, I do that all the time

  8. I agree with you on that point, I always find new books to read or books just released that or didn't know about and they just pile up in the cart.

  9. I know what you mean, the same thing happens to me. :)

  10. I know how you feel about the love hate relationship with Amazon. I recently won a $15 gift card, but dont want to order anything til I have another $10 gift card, so that I can get $25 worth of books and not have to pay shipping!

  11. I'm the same way. I look for one book, and then I start checking out recommended books and soon have a much longer read list than I started with!

  12. I know how you feel about the book addict thing. I go through the same thing all the time. There are just so many authors and books and so little money..lol

  13. I always love finding bargain books. I also cannot stop at one book especially when the shipping can cost more than the price of a book.

  14. I get stuck down those rabbit holes ALL the time too! Omg, they are terrible to get out of.. and yet I find them so enjoyable too.. such a paradox!

  15. It's easy to get sucked in when visiting Amazon. I definitely have a love/hate relationship.

  19. Funny you should post this, because I was just on Amazon and noticed all the markdowns on books I want. Many of them you have listed.

  20. Now I know I am definitely a bookaholic too! So glad I'm not alone!

    Thanks for sharing :)

  21. LOL!! This is why I don't tend to buy books online. If I do, I use book depository so that I always have free shipping.Ok,maybe it is also because if shipping is always free, I can get more books! Seriously, I don't buy many books online. My big problem is a thrift store nearby sells paperbacks for 99 cents each, and if you buy 3 you get the 4th free. I usually find 5 at minimum, which means I have to get 3 more to make an even 8, because finding 3 more would be easier than deciding which one not to get right?? Can you guess what happens if I find 10.....lol!! Yes, I have a problem too!

  22. I have the same love/hate relationship with Chapters! And then I found this little book warehouse in St.Catherines while we were on a weekend getaway in the Niagara and I spent hours in there. My bf was the one who suggested we stop cause he knows my love of books but I don't think he had anticipated the selection in there!

  25. Browsing arounf books, either on Amazzon or in a B&M bookstore is a dangerous activity for me and my wallet! There are so many I want!

  26. I love amazon that is where I buy books most of the time! I always get the free shipping so when I order always one more books added :) I love because I get my order so fast where I live never had a problem with them!

  28. LOL! Amazon is fun like that. I found the audiobook of Radiance on there for three dollars one time and had to make-up the 25 dollars. Fun, fun!

  29. This happens to me all the time when I'm on amazon (or even paperbackswap or bookmooch). It's so hard to say no to books. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. It sounds we are all alike. You can't just buy one book we have to get more. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. For me, Amazon is a great alternative to my local overpriced bookstore. Not to mention I can shop in my jammies!

    ReplyDelete
  32. lol. I'm sorry. It's not funny, but from a fellow bookers view. Well, I know the feeling. Oh, best of luck to you as it is very addicting to buying books. :) I do hope you enjoy them all.

  33. Been there, done that! You have to buy at least $25 because who wants to pay for shipping. And my books shelf has almost all the shelfs stacked the books deep. And wouldn't you know one of the borders going out of business is only 20 minutes away. So of course I have to buy some books that I have been eying. I have been there 3 times already. My poor bookshelf is going to break!

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL...That is why I try to stick to Kindle book unless I win the pretty print copies...no shipping costs!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree. I'm a bookaholic too and all those book sites can be pretty overwhelming. I'm been caught up in that, 'I need to purchase so much money to get free shipping' tons of times.

  37. Loved the post! I love Amazon...but then again, I hate it. I have to admit that a big chunk of my paycheck goes onto buying things at Amazon. I'm addicted!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep that happens to me every time I go there...I have to find something to make up the price so I don't pay shipping and I end up with a whole list of books.

  39. I love to shop on Amazon too - especially now that I have a Prime account. The UPS and FedEx trucks are here all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ahhh Amazon! I'm exactly like you! Always trying to save some money on shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can relate. I do that too.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I understand how easy it is to get sucked in, it's looking at the recommendations that usually gets meI don't think I'll ever get to see the end of my TBR pile.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great List! LOL so know what you mean about Amazon and the other places - its a consipracy I think ;).

    ReplyDelete
  44. Whew. So glad I am not the only one who does this. I just got my books from Amazon in the mail and strange but true. The Werewolf UpStairs and Twice Bitten were among the ones I bought.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh I so know this feeling...it happens with Book Depository for me because for the first time, I've found free shipping. FREE SHIPPING!! WORLDWIDE!! That's like HUGE! And they have so many books! And lots I can't even get in my own country! And they are cheaper and have great discounts, and tell you when there are promos, and notify you when your book is in stock again so you can now buy it. Oh no no no!! How many times I have fallen prey to BD. And I don't have any GCs to that because they don't have GCs. I wish I had GCs to Book Depository
