BOOKS AND BLOGGING PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is defined as a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought. Well, my theory is if I can add at least 10 new books to my Wishlist and move at least 5 older Wishlist selections to my TBR list every month, then life is a ice cream sundae. And if I can find those 10 books from at least 5 new blogs each month then that's the cherry on top.

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!

NEW VISITORS AND OLD- WELCOME!
Well, I've made it almost 5 years now, so for better or worse, I continue on. I tend to blog in spurts as the urge to be creative erupts. As I don't have an artistic bone in my body, you will see very few changes in the layouts. Hey, I'm a reader not an artist like so many of the awesome bloggers I follow. I know you don't always have the time but if you stopped and looked, take a half a minute and say your piece. Recommend a book that you have enjoyed or hated for that matter. Thank you to all who visit.
Oh, and I moved my Google Friend Connect info and share this buttons to the top, as without our friends, who are we?

Alien scientist David has dealt with disappointment his entire life, but failing to breathe life into the planet Mars is his greatest regret. Out of options and in need of a new home for their people, the alien Caretakers rekindle their plan to inhabit Earth. First they will have to eliminate the human race, including Jess, the only human David holds dear.
Humanity has one final chance at survival. David needs to emulate Earth’s precipitation on Mars. But the catalyst to make it rain lies in the fathomless depths of Earth’s ocean.
The clock is ticking down to humanity’s last hours as Jess and David face a world more alien than either of them can imagine. The sea hides secrets, but some secrets don’t want to be found.

World building. Where do you even start?

World building for Embers in the Sea was quite a challenge. The first challenge was to pick a location. That may seem easy, but I had set something in motion in books one and two.
In FIRE IN THE WOODS Jess and David raced through the woods being chased by the United States Military.
In ASHES IN THE SKY Jess and David sprinted through space trying to keep away from David’s people.
Challenge number one: Location. For book three, I wanted something completely new. A plunge into the ocean seemed an obvious choice to me. But writing a book that takes place mostly underwater has its own challenges.
Challenge number two: Research. I wanted the book to seem as authentic as I could within the parameters of science fiction, so I did extensive research on ocean depths, ocean life, temperatures, pressure, and the fine points of evaporation and condensation. I built on this research to create the world that Jess and David will explore.
Challenge number three: Water is a lot like space. Jess and David have already faced outer space. I needed to keep it fresh, knowing they could not go outside their ship.
Challenge number four: See number three, knowing that water is NOTHING like space. Water has many of the same constraints, but then again, so many more constraints than outer space. There were a lot of plot points that I would have loved to insert, but they would not work underwater.
Challenge number five: Believability and theme. To be honest, I just tried to work on believability at first. This meant working extensively with my beta readers, then my two Month9Books editors, and then even with a fan at the last minute before the manuscript was finalized. Some weird things happen in the ocean, and I didn’t want people rolling their eyes. I also wanted to work in the overlying themes we’ve seen in other Fire in the Woods books. Those came a little more naturally once the new characters started to take shape.
Creating a new world is usually pretty easy. You can make it however you want and tailor your setting to your story.
But creating a world WITHIN a real world proved to be something altogether different. I hope that everyone will find their swim through the ocean in EMBERS IN THE SEA to be as fun and exciting as the first two books. Enjoy!

Title: FIRE IN THE WOODS (Fire In The Woods #1)
Author: Jennifer M. Eaton
Pub. Date: October 28, 2014
Publisher: Month9Books
Format: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 331

When a plane crashes in the woods near Jess’s home, the boy of her dreams falls out of the sky—literally.
But David’s not here to find a girlfriend. He’s from another planet, and if Jess can’t help him get back to his ship, he’ll be stuck on Earth with nothing to look forward to but the pointy end of a dissection scalpel. But her father runs their house like an army barracks. and with an alien on the loose, Major Dad isn’t too keen on the idea of Jess going anywhere.
Ever.
So how the heck is she supposed to help the sweetest, strangest, and cutest guy she’s ever met? Hiding him in her room probably isn’t the best idea. Especially since her Dad is in charge of the squadron searching for David.
That doesn’t mean she won’t do it.
It just means she can't get caught. Helping David get home while protecting her heart—that’s gonna be the hard part.
After all, she can't really fall for a guy whose not exactly from here. As they race through the woods with Major Dad and most of the U.S. military one breath behind them, Jess and David grow closer than either of them anticipated. But all is not what it seems. David has a genocide-sized secret, and one betrayal later, they are both in handcuffs as alien warships are positioning themselves around the globe. Time is ticking down to Armageddon, and Jess must think fast if she's to save the boy she cares about without sacrificing Earth—and everyone on it.

FIRE IN THE WOODS is Star-Crossed meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind!

Title: ASHES IN THE SKY (Fire In The Woods #2)
Author: Jennifer M. Eaton
Pub. Date: March 15, 2016
Publisher: Month9Books
Format: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 331

After inadvertently saving the world, eighteen-year-old Jessica Martinez is ready to put adventure behind her and settle back into the familiar routine of high school.
Though when she's offered an opportunity to photograph the inside of an alien space ship, Jess jumps at the chance. After all, she'd be crazy to turn something like that down, right?
Spending time with David on the ship has definite advantages and the two seem to pick up right where they left off. But when Jess discovers a plot to sabotage David's efforts to establish a new home for his people on another planet, neither David's advanced tech nor Jess's smarts will be able to save them.

ASHES IN THE SKY is an action-packed, romantic Sci Fi adventure that will leave readers screaming for more.

Jennifer M. Eaton hails from the eastern shore of the North American Continent on planet Earth. Yes, regrettably, she is human, but please don’t hold that against her. While not traipsing through the galaxy looking for specimens for her space moth collection, she lives with her wonderfully supportive husband and three energetic offspring. (And a poodle who runs the spaceport when she’s not around.)
During infrequent excursions to her home planet of Earth, Jennifer enjoys long hikes in the woods, bicycling, swimming, snorkeling, and snuggling up by the fire with a great book; but great adventures are always a short shuttle ride away.
Who knows where we’ll end up next?
